This was fun! It's surprising how many of those are international (I'm Czech), while others I never heard of. For example, the one about looking into gifted horse's mouth: You can tell the age of horse by its teeth, so if you are buying one, you would check if the seller is honest about the animal's condition. However, if you are given one for free, it would be quite rude to do that. In short - if you are given something, do not complain about its condition.

Here in Germany the same! Do you also have the "pearls before swine"? That sounded like an exact translation. Also some are just with other animals: Blind as a mole (which is objectively better :D ) or elephant in the porcelain shop.
