Chapter 42: I Do Not Kill Fellow Daoists
After the twin cultivators merged into one and grew another head and another pair of arms, their speed, strength, vitality, and more increased by over tenfold. With a powerful stomp, they shot toward the cultivator covered in eyeballs like a cannonball.
The scarlet eyes on the cultivator’s body all turned in unison, every pupil staring fixedly at the two-headed cultivator.
The two-headed cultivator’s heads seemed to be struck by iron hammers. In an instant, their soul and consciousness went utterly blank, and their body continued forward on inertia alone.
In the direction they were moving, a long strip of black cloth coiled toward the two-headed cultivator from the side like a black venomous snake. It was silent and extremely fast. The part that had covered the eyeballs glowed with an eerie red light, echoing the eyes from afar.
Just as the black cloth was about to wrap around the two-headed cultivator, the newly grown head let out a low roar. Its sharp teeth bit viciously into the cheek of the head beside it, tearing off a piece of flesh.
Under the intense pain, the two-headed cultivator’s consciousness returned to clarity. Four arms spun and danced, leaving layers of afterimages as they grabbed the black cloth and yanked hard.
The previously slack black cloth was completely torn away by them, revealing the dense mass of eyeballs on the cultivator’s body.
The black cloth struggled endlessly in their hands. The four arms pulled it taut with all their strength, but to no avail. The two-headed cultivator simply wound the black cloth into a ball and, paying no mind to the eerie red light on it, swallowed it straight into their belly.
The scarlet eyeballs let out strange hisses. The pupils looked like cracks across the body, and one slick tentacle after another drilled out from those cracks, attacking the two-headed cultivator.
Not far away, the bone-spiked cultivator took advantage of the two fighting. He turned into an almost invisible white blur, the bone spike on his elbow protruding as he stabbed viciously toward the two-headed cultivator’s newly grown head.
After all his flesh and blood had evaporated, leaving only a skeleton and bone spikes behind, his speed had reached its fastest point in one burst. Before the two-headed cultivator could react, the bone spike plunged deep into their temple, pierced through the head, and emerged from the other side.
“Ah!!”
The two-headed cultivator howled in agony. Their four arms hammered continuously at the white-boned cultivator, directly breaking the bone spikes on his body and shattering them into fragments.
Wracked with pain, the white-boned cultivator could no longer spare any concern for the bone spike lodged in the head. He abandoned it and fled, circling near the two of them. One bone spike after another shot like sharp arrows toward the two-headed cultivator from time to time, impossible to fully guard against.
“So annoying!”
The bone spikes attacking from every direction were like mosquito bites. Though they did little damage, they were extremely irritating.
The two-headed cultivator was thrown into agitation by these bone spikes. The head in the middle let out an angry roar. While dealing with the attacks from the bone spikes and scarlet eyeballs, it opened its mouth wide and gnawed at the slippery new head.
Soon, the two-headed cultivator had bitten the new head into a bloody mess in just a few mouthfuls. The two heads merged into one, fusing together. The two-headed cultivator’s body kept swelling, and their four arms grew rapidly, like a giant spider blanketing a vast space.
After this further fusion, the four-armed cultivator dragged out streaks of afterimages and locked onto the white-boned cultivator. The four arms were like a great net being pulled open, leaving the white-boned cultivator nowhere to hide as he was directly covered beneath them.
Four enormous palms slapped viciously toward the white-boned cultivator. All the bone spikes on the white-boned cultivator shot out at once. Amid a series of clinking sounds, the bone spikes seemed to soften, leaving only shallow white marks on the palms.
One enormous palm ignored the bone spikes on the white-boned cultivator and grabbed the bones in a single clutch. The other three palms clenched tight, and three enormous fists smashed down again and again from above, pounding the white-boned cultivator.
With a clattering crash, the bone spikes on the cultivator’s body broke apart little by little, forming countless fragments.
The four-armed cultivator loosened his hand, and a small half-section of the bony body slipped from his grasp, falling onto the thick layer of bone fragments on the ground.
In an instant, the situation changed drastically.
The scarlet eyes on the black-cloth cultivator’s body widened. Countless blood vessels spread through the eyeballs, and one eye after another struggled with all their might, constantly bulging outward.
Soon, a huge eyeball dropped to the ground with a slap. In the spot where the eyeball had been was now a dark, black hole. Behind the huge eyeball, it dragged out a tentacle formed from flesh and blood, slowly crawling across the ground toward the two-headed, four-armed cultivator.
As if setting off a domino effect, one scarlet eyeball after another fell from his body to the ground. Each huge eyeball dragged a long flesh-and-blood tentacle behind it, leaving one strong, bloody red trail after another across the ground.
The two-headed, four-armed cultivator looked at all the eyeballs crawling toward him. There was no consciousness in his mind at all. On his arms, his body, and his thighs, waves of strange itching suddenly came over him.
The sensation grew stronger and stronger, unbearably itchy. He unconsciously reached toward the places where the itching came from. With a light rub, a layer of flesh was scraped away, revealing a red crack.
The crack was about three inches long. It kept widening until, at last, a small eyeball drilled out from within it. The eyeball gradually grew larger, most of it bulging out beyond the skin.
“So itchy… ah…”
The two-headed, four-armed cultivator, now with only one head left, let out an uncomfortable low roar. His four arms kept reaching toward the itchy places on his body. Pieces of flesh were scraped away, cracks appeared one after another, and scarlet eyeballs gradually bulged outward one by one.
With a slap, a huge eyeball broke free from his body, dragging out a tentacle stained with plenty of flesh and blood as it fell to the ground, moving to meet the scarlet eyeballs from the black-cloth cultivator’s body that were crawling toward him.
Likewise, one huge eyeball after another kept falling to the ground, scrambling over each other as they crawled toward the eyeballs already there. Soon, the two sides met one after another. Each small eyeball merged into a larger eyeball, and the flesh-and-blood tentacles fused with one another as well.
With countless eyeballs dragging out the flesh and blood from his body, the two-headed, four-armed cultivator was soon left with only his head still relatively intact. His body was covered everywhere in hollow, pitch-black cracks.
The two-headed cultivator looked at his body, no longer human in form. A trace of resolve flashed through his eyes. His head kept swelling larger and larger, then exploded with a bang!
Under the impact of the explosion, the countless scarlet eyeballs on the ground could not endure the immense pressure either. One after another, they exploded in succession. Chunks of flesh and blood were scattered everywhere across the ground, like hell on earth.
“Uh, wow…”
Lu Yuan, who had been observing from the cave abode with his divine sense the entire time, was somewhat speechless.
The cultivator wrapped in black cloth should have ultimately died from Aberration, all the flesh and blood in his body dragged out by the scarlet eyeballs on him.
Under the influence of the many strange eyeballs, the two-headed, four-armed cultivator grew the same bizarre eyeballs on his own body. In the end, during a rare moment of clear consciousness, the four-armed cultivator chose to make his own head explode to avoid having the eyeballs contaminate his entire body.
Under the impact of the explosion, although the aberrant scarlet eyeballs were extremely strange, they could not withstand such a tremendous force. In the end, both sides perished together, and every eyeball was blasted into fragments.
Lu Yuan had never imagined that four, or rather three, high-level Qi Refining cultivators would all die in order to fight over the Sword-Nurturing Gourd, which had advanced to the third rank.
The delicate-looking cultivator, meanwhile, had hidden far away early on when the three of them started fighting because his strength was lacking, and by sheer luck, he survived with his life.
“I do not kill fellow Daoists, yet fellow Daoists die because of me…”
Lu Yuan sighed inwardly, and his divine sense released a voice filled with emotion.
