Chapter 55 (Part 1)

Bang.

All the souls absorbed inside flew out. With the help of the Green Feather Branch, the souls of the city’s residents returned to their own bodies. As for the souls that had been sucked in long ago, their physical bodies were not here, and they had long since ceased to exist.

Those souls could only fly about wildly outside. Seeing this, Yu Yu once again activated the power of the Green Feather Branch, soothing those souls so they no longer flew around in chaos.

At the same time, Yu Yu decided to deliver these souls onward. It was just that these souls carried different injuries. He had no way to mend damaged souls, so he could only keep their soul bodies from dispersing, then send the souls into reincarnation.

Because their souls were incomplete, for the next few lifetimes, they could only reincarnate as children with impaired minds, or as animals and plants. Only after repeated reincarnations would their souls be made whole again.

Yu Yu’s actions nearly made the evil path cultivator collapse. It was bad enough that his Myriad Ghost Banner had been destroyed, but now even the souls inside that had already been partly refined had run off with it.

Just thinking about it made him furious. He decided to kill that little brat and avenge his Myriad Ghost Banner.

The Myriad Ghost Banner was not his bonded spiritual weapon yet, so even if it was destroyed, the evil cultivator would not suffer any damage. But for him to let the other party off so easily? Of course the evil cultivator was unwilling.

Only, when he tried to retrieve the damaged Myriad Ghost Banner so he could take it back and re-refine it, another stream of sword qi flew toward him.

This time, the evil cultivator still did not see who had injured him.

At first, he had not suspected this pair of senior and junior brothers at all. The main reason was that they looked far too young. Which Tribulation stage cultivator was not an old monster? Lingji certainly did not look like one.

So it was only after he took three sword strikes in a row that he realized he had misjudged them.

Hiss.

Sword qi struck the evil cultivator again and again, leaving several more wounds on his body.

And those wounds continued to widen. The evil cultivator hated him to the extreme.

He had not expected that the Immortal-Receiving City he had deliberately chosen would actually have someone there who specifically countered him.

Logically speaking, the energy of the Buddhist Sect should have countered evil cultivators more easily. Unfortunately, the people of the Buddhist Sect had not appeared even now, and Yu Yu and Lingji had long since stopped expecting anything from them.

No matter why the other party had not appeared to save people, Yu Yu had no good feelings toward this Buddhist Sect.

The people in the city were nearly dead, yet the other party remained unmoved. Was this still the Buddhist Sect that held compassion as its core?

Or was this the Buddhist Sect’s true face?

Yu Yu focused on protecting the common people’s souls, while Lingji faced the evil cultivator.

Although the evil cultivator was also at the Tribulation stage, if one truly had to put it into words, all of his abilities lay in the Myriad Ghost Banner. Now that the Myriad Ghost Banner had been broken, more than half his combat power was basically crippled as well.

Seeing that the situation was bad, the evil path cultivator wanted to flee. Unfortunately, he understood too late. Lingji absolutely would not let him escape.

To dare flee in front of a sword cultivator—did he have some misunderstanding about a sword cultivator’s sword and speed?

“Pfft.”

The longsword pierced the evil path cultivator’s body. He had not even run ten meters before Lingji caught up and stabbed him through with one sword.

If Lingji could not even kill an evil path cultivator whose combat power had been cut in half, then he might as well stop being a sword cultivator.

Not only did he destroy the evil path cultivator’s physical body, he destroyed his primordial spirit along with it.

That was what it meant to pull weeds up by the roots. He absolutely could not give the evil path cultivator a chance to run away. Otherwise, who knew how many more people would die at his hands?

Seeing Lingji kill a Tribulation stage cultivator as easily as slaughtering a chicken, the Arhat who had been pretending to be dead inside the City Lord’s Manor could no longer keep up the act.

In truth, there should have been two other Arhats guarding Immortal-Receiving City as well. But for some reason, right now, only the Arhat in the City Lord’s Manor was in Immortal-Receiving City.

Originally, Yu Yu and Lingji had not understood the reason. But the evil path cultivator’s appearance made them figure it out.

This was luring the tiger away from the mountain!

Add in what happened afterward, and so the moment the Arhat from the City Lord’s Manor came out, what greeted him were two pairs of eyes that understood everything perfectly.

He was finished.

The Arhat’s face was utterly dispirited. He pressed his palms together and bowed to the two of them, then quietly stood in midair watching Yu Yu save people and deliver souls onward without interrupting.

Although outsiders thought that Buddhism was best at delivering souls onward, that was only a misunderstanding. In truth, the Daoist path also had methods for delivering souls onward.

Yu Yu recited the Scripture of Salvation. As more and more souls were delivered onward and saved by him, the merit on his body grew brighter and brighter.

When that Arhat saw this scene, his heart was dripping blood.

He had schemed for so long, but he had never expected that in the end, someone from the Daoist path would pluck the peach.

The hateful thing was that his weakness was now in the other party’s hands. That slightly older Daoist disciple was in the same realm as him, his cultivation was unfathomable, and he was also a sword cultivator with the strongest combat power.

Even if he wanted to do something, there was no way to carry it out. By the time the other two Arhats received the news and rushed back, Yu Yu had already saved all the souls, and the deliverance was almost at its end.

“Yuantong? What happened?”

The monk robes on the two Arhats were both disheveled from hurrying on the road. As soon as they returned, they chased after their junior brother to question him.

“Senior Brothers, let us speak later. The Daoist path’s outstanding disciple is currently delivering souls onward.”

Yuantong said this with an awkward expression.

Because the danger in Immortal-Receiving City had already been resolved, they were not in a hurry for an explanation. The two Arhats stood to the side just like their junior brother, not daring to disturb Yu Yu as he delivered the souls onward.

They did not feel even the slightest jealousy toward the merit on Yu Yu’s body. They only felt that immortal cultivators nowadays were truly remarkable. At such a young age, the merit on him was even denser than their abbot’s.

Even more rarely, this child’s cultivation was not poor either.

Although they kept away from other sects, it was not as if they knew nothing at all. As for this one big and one small pair, they already had a guess in their hearts.

That was why they admired Yu Yu even more, and at the same time felt grateful that he had saved this whole city of common people.

Although they had returned late, when they saw the state of their junior brother Yuantong, a bad premonition immediately rose in their hearts. Even if they wanted to interrogate him, they would have to wait until Yu Yu finished.

After the two Arhats returned, Lingji nodded at them in greeting and considered it done. They were all at the Tribulation stage. If he wanted to act as a junior, he would act as a junior; if he did not want to pay them any attention, the other party could not find any fault with him either.

After all, in terms of cultivation, he was no worse than the two Arhats. In terms of status, they might even be of the same generation, so he would not place himself very low and let others look down on the Holy Sun lineage.

After the time it took an incense stick to burn, Yu Yu finished.

Heavenly Dao bestowed merit, and his Green Feather Branch also received ten percent of it.

Its appearance looked even more spirited. Yu Yu raised his brows and looked toward his eldest senior brother.

“Congratulations, Junior Brother.”

Lingji was happy for his little junior brother. With this merit, his little junior brother was now basically a walking human immunity charm. Anyone who dared to scheme against his little junior brother would be unlucky before the next day even arrived.

The people who had plotted against his little junior brother before probably had no idea that his little junior brother was a little merit person, which was why they had rashly abducted him.

And what happened?

They had planned for so long, yet his little junior brother had been teleported to the Demon Realm. They had not even seen a single hair of him.

The teleportation array they had finally managed to obtain was even a random teleportation array. The money was spent, the person was gone, and they still had not caught their target.

After working so hard for nothing, in the end they got nothing at all, and now they still had to worry about the Taizhen Immortal Sect’s retaliation.

Folks, who could understand this pain?

“Greetings, two eminent monks.”

Yu Yu first hugged his eldest senior brother, and only then did he greet the two Arhats who had returned last.

As for the Arhat named Yuantong, who had kept watch over the City Lord’s Manor but had refused to come out, he was currently regretting things bitterly and did not notice at all that he had been ignored.

The other two noticed, but they did not say anything more.

Their junior brother’s abnormal behavior had not only been noticed by them. These two outstanding Daoist disciples must have noticed it too. That was why they were treating their junior brother with such slighting indifference.

“Two outstanding disciples of the Daoist path, please follow this poor monk into the City Lord’s Manor for a detailed discussion.”

They took the initiative to invite the two into the City Lord’s Manor, but not because they wanted to do anything to them.

If they dared do anything to these two, the Taizhen Immortal Sect would dare go head-to-head with the Buddhist Sect. Believe it or not.

Although their Buddhist Sect was far from the center of Holy Feather, they still understood the major sects fairly well.

The Buddhist Sect would rather fight the Sword Sect than provoke the Taizhen Immortal Sect.

Their abbot had said that the people of the Sword Sect were foolish, but the people of the Taizhen Immortal Sect were old foxes, and they also loved to trap people from the shadows.

If they went up against the Sword Sect, the ones who lost might not necessarily be the Buddhist Sect. But if they went up against the Taizhen Immortal Sect, they would not even know how they lost.

Those old schemers struck viciously. In the past, some sects had done things unfavorable to the Taizhen Immortal Sect. In the end, not only did they fail to gain any advantage, they were instead cheated until their faces were covered in blood.

All the sects thought it was an accident. Only the Buddhist Sect saw a few clues.

One was an accident. Several were not.

They studied it for a while. All these sects were sects that had secretly made trouble for the Taizhen Immortal Sect, so all of them had met with misfortune.

Not only were the shops belonging to their sects smashed by someone, even treasures they had gone to great difficulty to find were robbed halfway.
