So.... how many lands do you play in your commander decks?

40 minimum, unless my deck is very low curve, with like 3 cards above 3 mana + a bunch of 2 mana mana rocks, in which case I might go as low as 38

Rose

In standard and draft the most successful land ratio is 42.5% which also translates to your average commander deck too.

Rose

If you are playing a mana rock or a rampant growth instead of your land drop you are effectively paying 2 mana to play your land drop for the turn which is a horrendous rate and your mana rock is much better served as a land instead.

The casual mulligan of 'mulligan until you have a playable hand' encourages bad deck building and not playing with it quickly shows who needs to work on their land count.

I am very passionate when it comes to people playing more land in commander XD

I have played with as few as 33 in the past, but The Command Zone has shown me the error of my ways. My minimum is now 38.

Skithiryx

Yes, I was mana screwed often. That's why my minimum is now 38.

I definitely used to have a deck like this. I kept taking lands out for ramp, then I would get mana screwed a lot. I was like "if I just draw 3 lands I'll be OK" The numbers didn't agree. I now run a minimum of 36

Cardboard Crack

It's really pretty simple. Just use 33 lands and put a land every 3rd card and you're set!

Scott Aguilar

Genius! I don't know why I didn't think of that. 😉

Morten

I have a minimum of 36-37 lands. In total at least 42-45 cards that are either land or ramp.
