The white border set with expansion symbols on all the cards. I started playing around Ice Age, and even then the Chronicles packs always seemed super weak. For tournament play, I guess there was Erhnam Djinn, but it was never very expensive. Looking back today, it's hard to believe the set was so controversial at the time.

They reprinted the stupidly expensive (at the time) $20-30 Elder Dragons from Legends. How dare they reprint a card that drops the Value of the ones I own by SO MUCH! XD. Yeah, Chronicles and the Reserved list seem pretty silly this far out from it, not that they can do anything about it now.

The funny thing is that they didn’t reprint any of the cards from Legends that were actually good, like Mana Drain, The Abyss, Moat, etc. so they knew what they were doing! Those cards probably wouldn’t have tanked so hard because they were needed for tournaments. Instead they reprinted the cards that were mostly expensive just because they were so hard to find but not necessarily good, and the rest is history.

There is actually quite a bit in the set that either was or is good and would drastically change magic and/or be quite expensive if it hadn't been in Chronicles and been on the reserved list instead, including Blood Moon, Hell's Caretaker, Ashnod's Altar, Recall, City of Brass, and Dance of the Many.

Mystic X

Isn’t that the case with most old expansions? (Or indeed every expansion outright) The biggest damage “Chronicles” did to the game was spawning the reserved list, IMO.
