I have something to admit. Even though I've generally not been a fan of the Secret Lairs (with the exception of all the Dan Frazier ones because, let's be real, Dan Frazier is dope), I actually tried to get the Sonic Secret Lair this week. I figured that these limited edition Secret Lairs have been going up in price. At the very least, I can sell it in a few months to a year and make some money to buy cards I would actually play with. So I added some of the bundles to the cart and got in the queue. When I saw the wait time was longer than an hour, I started my work. A few hours later, I realized I had totally forgotten about the Secret Lair, and when I checked my computer I had missed the opportunity to make the purchase! Funny enough, when I checked today, the Sonic Friends and Foes Secret Lairs are still available. I guess WotC probably printed a ton of these and they won't increase any time soon. So I unwittingly saved myself from buying a bunch of product that would be difficult to move and I wouldn't have even used! Hopefully I learned a lesson from all this--only buy cards you want and not as an "investment". Surely, I won't try this again, right? Right?!

I start to find people's complaints about Secret Lair or Universes Beyond a lot less valid the moment they start to say, "except this one, this one's good"

I don't want to turn this into a discussion of hating on Secret Lairs, but I generally agree with you. There were definitely a bunch of people hating on them, but then when WotC printed cards with some IP that tapped into their childhood nostalgia these same people totally changed their tune. My general perspective is that I'm personally not interested in anything that doesn't look like a Magic card, and I really wish WotC wouldn't print mechanically unique cards as Secret Lairs because I think it's going to lead to big problems in the future. But I'm glad there's all these unique treatments that will hopefully help keep the prices of the more "normal" versions of cards more affordable.

Yeah, that's entirely reasonable. A lot of the complaints I hear about Secret Lair mostly concern Wizards selling the product directly as opposed to going through Local Game Stores. Merely not liking how they look by comparison feels very reasonable :)

Yup, that’s another good point. It’s pretty clear there’s a segment of WotC that doesn’t appreciate how fundamental the LGS is for the success of Magic.

I would attribute that more to Hasbro than WotC, but yes.

The Sonic Secret Lair is limit 2 in order to beat the scalpers, and for the most part it worked!

They upped the limit to 5 today, so looks like they printed a lot too!
