I ended up playing in the Edge of Eternities prerelease on Sunday. I made a black/white beatdown deck. I didn't really have any bomb rares or mythics, but I opened a crazy amount of removal--9 creature kill spells between black and white! We played 3 rounds of Swiss, and I ended up going 2-1 in matches, 5-3 in games. In each of the 3 losses, I drew 10 lands, while in the 5 wins I completely steamrolled my opponents. The funny thing is I never drew a rare card in any of the 8 games. I would just play a creature early and then steadily kill everything they played while attacking with small creatures. One game my opponent played three 6 drop rares in a row and I was like, Vote Out, Gravkill, Banishing Light, you're dead.

Overall, I think the format is going to be pretty decent. All the color pairs have interesting strategies, but there are good synergies and overlap between them. For example, I think the landers played especially well, ramping people, pulling lands out of your deck, providing sacrifice fodder, and even producing artifacts for the artifact strategies. I never stationed any of my spacecraft because my deck was too fast, but it seemed like people liked those cards as well. I'm looking forward to trying some drafts once EoE is out on Arena!

That's my preferred strategy for Prereleases. Curve out, backed up by removal, win games by going under my opponents playing all their splashy, high costed, rares.

Didn't get to play this prerelease, was sold out by the time I decided I wanted to play. Popular, as it turns out.

I generally agree. This can be a little harder to pull off when your opponent potentially has more rares and you might not have as good of a curve. But 9 removal spells in a 40 card deck was pretty insane!

It wasn't one I was super excited about. I'm quickly falling into the vibe of "If we are going to be doing universes beyond, I want my magic sets to feel a lot more traditional magic fantasy." That said my opinion might change after doing a bunch of arena drafts

Instead of Romantasy, what about, revisit Bloomburrow and actually return to Llorwyn. Hmmmm. HMMMMMMMMM

Cardboard Crack

Lorwyn is coming in January. Fingers crossed that they do the world justice!

Michelle

Since the original return to Lorwyn was pushed back once already, I am tentatively hopeful.

Don't forget, the story already confirmed that Jace and Vraska are banging each other!
