Funny thing happened over the weekend. I was cleaning out my garage and found a stash of Ultimate Guard products that they had gifted to me but I had never used. A nice backpack, a box full of sleeves, and some playmats. My plan was to post it as a giveaway on Sunday, and right as I was about to do this, a bunch of bad news about Ultimate Guard broke. So what should I do with this stuff? Maybe I can give it away to someone on Patreon? I'm definitely not going to be using it. Oh well, the timing was too perfect!

Nah, some of their products seem to have been extended with AI art instead of paying the original artist to do it. It's garbage if intentional, but it looks like there are ways it could have been purely a mistake. But when big companies apologies are often distrusted I'm not sure the full truth will ever be known.

The version I heard is that Ultimate Guard came out with Harry Potter themed deck boxes, and some people are angry they are giving royalties to J.K. Rowling

Full disclosure: Occasional Ultimate Guard sleeve user, when I'm not using KMC Hyper Mat or the Ultra Pro Chibi Planeswalker ones from ages ago. Heavy user of the regular ol' plastic deck boxes. What Ultimate Guard did sucked, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. If they end up not making the situation right, then absolutely I'm avoiding them to the extent I can; right now, I'm not at that point.
