I think one of the best testaments to what a great game Magic is was that in the early days we were playing decks like Turbo Stasis, Winter Orb, Armageddon, Strip Mine, or even decks with 16+ counterspells, and we were still like "this game is so amazing!"

Also, I wanted to announce that long-time Patreon supporter Noah Michelson was randomly chosen for the Ultimate Guard giveaway. Congrats Noah, your backpack, sleeves, and playmats are already in the mail!

I've played the one mana 12/12. It was in my selvala deck. Pretty good but doesn't stick around long.

Congrats Noah! 🎉

Watching early episodes of the Resleevables, where they play 1st and 2nd place decks from pro tours against each other, I feel you. Early magic was awful compared to how it is now. Why do I remember it being so damn fun? Spending hours into the night just playing games over and over again. And why, when premodern has so much of this, is it one of the most fun I've had playing magic in years?

Isn't pre-modern just Vintage or Legacy? 😂

Because we are gluttons for punishment?

Use it to station the new cards from EOE!

I was surprised to even see some younger people playing premodern (younger as in early 20s). They liked it because you can actually have some pretty interesting gameplay with cards that don’t have a ton of text on them. Also, they mostly proxies so they didn’t even need to have the original cards.

That's why I like it, and old school (though I played without power) before that. Simpler cards, and without force of will, you can be pretty confident that a tapped-out blue player won't be interacting with your spells. I can play decks I loved seeing being played at events that I could never afford myself. It's just a format that makes me happy <3
