I thought this was a pretty interesting design for a card. Although if your opponent is using it as their commander, it probably results in a pretty annoying deck!

305.7. If an effect sets a land’s subtype to one or more of the basic land types, the land no longer has its old land type. It loses all abilities generated from its rules text, its old land types, and any copiable effects affecting that land, and it gains the appropriate mana ability for each new basic land type. Note that this doesn’t remove any abilities that were granted to the land by other effects. Setting a land’s subtype doesn’t add or remove any card types (such as creature) or supertypes (such as basic, legendary, and snow) the land may have. If a land gains one or more land types in addition to its own, it keeps its land types and rules text, and it gains the new land types and mana abilities. If it actually gained the island subtype, Hydroman would lose its 2 printed triggered abilities, although it would gain it back when the continuous effect applied by resolving its second ability ends. By not gaining the island subtype, there are 2 benefits. 1. If blood moon is in play, it can now tap for both blue and red mana, as the blue mana ability is added in layer 6 but the type changing effect is first applied at layer 4 before blood moon which is dependent on it, and the layer 6 effect is still applied after that. 2. If it becomes animated land (eg, via earthbending) it can benefit from the first trigger which would still be present.
