I've been enjoying Premodern a lot lately, so I thought I'd quickly share the two decks I'm currently playing. The first is a pretty typical blue/green madness deck.

The sideboard cards are the ones grouped along the bottom left. This deck is fairly straightforward to play, which made it a good one to start out with. There isn't too much flexibility in card choices for the main deck either. Probably five flex spots to play with. I went 2-1 in the only tournament I played this deck in.

The deck has a couple of glaring weaknesses that are hard to get around. First, most of the counters are conditional, which makes them weak in the late game. Second, there isn't much creature removal, which makes things difficult if a large creature lands against you. Finally, the manabase is pretty bad. You need both Islands and green mana early in the game, so this results in taking a lot of mulligans. Perhaps one of the biggest problems with Premodern is that there are only ally color fetch lands, so the blue/green and blue/red decks suffer a lot. Overall a fun deck, but never going to be the best in the format.

My other deck I've been playing in Premodern a lot is Pox.

This is the deck I went 3-0 with last Saturday. I have a long history of always playing Necro, Pox, or Monoblack Control decks during my early days of Magic, so it was super fun to get to revisit this deck (in fact it uses many of the same cards that I played with back then, including the Rituals and Swamps).

Let me know if you have any questions about card choices. Maybe there are some cards that I've forgotten about that would be great fits for these decks!

I'm already itching to build another Premodern deck. The two main choices I've been considering are a blue/white/red deck centered around Lightning Angel or a Gro-a-tog deck (tempo deck focused on Quirion Dryad and Psychatog--I also think Nimble Mongoose may be a fun card to try).

Hope you enjoyed this peak at some of the decks I've been building lately. Every time I think I'm getting bored with Magic, I discover a new format and am more addicted than ever!

I love Nimble Mongoose! What are the most legit gy hate options in Premodern? Is it mainly Tormod's Crypt and not much else? If so, I could see giving the Mongoose a try.

There are some beautiful cards in there. Mostly the Dark Rituals and the City of Brass, and of course, the Gloom you cracked open.

There's Phyrexian Furnace, which I have 2 maindeck in the Pox deck and 1 in the sideboard. Withered Wretch is also very good. But yeah, when most people are using targeted removal like Lightning Bolt and Swords to Plowshares, I feel like Nimble Mongoose should be good.
