Favorite Basic Land (Patreon)

Okay, let's get to the important questions. Like what is your favorite basic land? I have lots that I really like. Some of the APAC lands, the Arena lands, and the original full art Unhinged lands (especially the Jund colors) are all high on my list. Ice Age lands also have a special place in my heart because that's when I first started playing Magic. And I still remember how in awe I was the first time I saw Jon Avon's Mirage lands.

But when it comes to my all time favorite single basic land, nothing beats this one:

The simplicity and vibrant colors just get me every time. I used to have a mono-blue Ninja of the Deep Hours deck for Modern with like 20 of this land. It was awesome to see a bunch of them on the battlefield at the same time.

So what's your favorite basic land?

Mine would be the Zendikar Island art by Véronique Meignaud. I always use full sets for all my decks and this is my absolute fav ^.^

I still love the Tempest lands; it wasn't where I started (that was Fallen Empires), but it was where I finally had enough money to buy more than a pack or two a month. And the Urza's Saga forests remain some of my favorites too.

That's a good choice. I think a lot of the Zendikar full art lands look a little too similar, but the Véronique Meignaud ones have especially distinct colors.

I prefer a variety of different land. For my cube I have 1 of every land from every set and product, with different art if possible (some repeats since some products don't have unique art).

The Mirage basics are suuper pretty and different from most other basics. The cycle Veronique Meignaud did for OG Zendikar is also a favorite of mine. But my absolute favorite basic land Artwork is the Eldraine Swamp by Paul Scott Canavan.

Yeah, all the lands from those early eras really appeal to me. I like the Odyssey lands too.

That's a cool idea. My cube uses the Rebecca Guay lands from 2016 Commander.

Yeah, those Mirage basics blew my mind when they first came out. Yeah, that swamp is pretty sweet. Such nice colors!

Yup. My playmat of it from the John Avon KS should be arriving any day now. I'm pretty excited.

I get teased by all the art connoisseurs for it, but I really like the look of the THB constellation full arts. I think it looks really clean to have just a board full of star lands!! I've got a few older john avon basics I adore too, but they don't see much play cuz I don't like to mix borders on my basics!

I'm a pretty big land art snob, and I think the THB lands are cool!

My boyfriend is a massive rebecca guay fan I do really enjoy her art so I think I would pick her lands or the special squirrel ones they made recently because I love squirrels

Franz Vohwinkel's Mountain from Odyssey is one of my favourites.

Yeah, I think a lot of the Odyssey lands are underrated. I also really like the Rob Alexander swamp.

Was the squirrel ones from the Secret Lair? They're a lot more pricey, but Guay also did two APAC lands (Mountain and Plains) that were really nice.

My favourite is literally that same Island! But, not gonna lie, I'm partial to any of the original basic lands in black-border. I've got a stack of foreign black-border basics that I use for drafts when I don't feel like going full Unstable. (Those Unstable basics are my second-favourite on the whole.)
