Storm Decks (Patreon)
Content
Continuing my series of posts about decks I have constructed (but haven't played in what feels like forever)...
I have something to admit. I love to play Storm. It doesn't matter if it's Legacy, Modern, or even Vintage cube, I'm going to try to make Storm work. There's just something about the rush of playing so many cards in one turn that I just can't get enough of. I especially enjoy the situations where I don't quite have the combo kill, but for whatever reason, I need to try to go off the best I can (perhaps my opponent is close to killing me or has some disruption I need to play around) that I find exhilarating. It does make me feel a little guilty, because I know my opponent can't possibly be having as much fun sitting there as I am. But that's were MTGO is so great, because I can play Storm without having to look at the pained expression on my opponent's face.
Anyway, here is my Legacy Storm deck:
You can see it's pretty straightforward. Of course, it hasn't been updated since the Gitaxian Probe ban, so it would need to be reworked before I can play it (for the far off future when we can play paper events again). I love Alpha/Beta Dark Rituals, but as you saw in my previous Pox post, those are already in another deck. But I'm also a big fan of Rebecca Guay's Dark Ritual art, so those work just fine. It may sound silly, but one of my favorite aspects of this deck is that all the artifacts are the classic brown border. It just gives the deck a really nice old school vibe. I'm eagerly awaiting Time Spiral Remastered, because it looks like we're going to get a bunch of additional artifacts with the old school frame.
Next, here's my Modern version:
This one actually still has the sideboard built. You can see that this build is especially outdated. My MTGO version of the deck has Gifts Ungiven and Baral, Chief of Compliance, as you would expect in the newer versions of Storm, but it's been so long since I've played this deck that I haven't bothered to update it. Again, there are four Gitaxian Probes that need to be replaced (which now brings us up to twelve Gitaxian Probes from the decks I've shared so far).
One last tidbit are the lands. You can see for the basic lands, instead of my usual Alpha/Beta or APAC lands, I've chosen some old Rob Alexander lands (with artwork that I think is super underrated--I mean, look at that Mountain, it's beautiful). This means that besides the Scalding Tarns (which I can't really cut), the lands are mono-Rob Alexander. Maybe I'm crazy, but I find details like this so satisfying when I'm playing Magic.
