The funny thing is that my first competitive deck was a classic Erhnamgeddon deck where the strategy was to play a bunch of creatures and non-land mana sources and then blow up all the lands with Armageddon. At the time, I don't remember people really feeling like it was a "mean" deck, but I would guess it would be viewed that way these days. Just for old times sake, here's a rough decklist:

2 Erhnam Djinn  2 Lhurgoyf 4 Llanowar Elves 2 Order Of Leitbur 2 Spectral Bear 2 Elvish Archer

4 Swords to Plowshares 4 Disenchant 3 Armageddon 2 Wrath of God 2 Fellwar Stone 2 Icy Manipulator 1 Land Tax 2 Sylvan Library 1 Balance 1 Zuran Orb 1 Ivory Tower

4 Strip Mine 4 Brushland 9 Forest 8 Plains

Another fun combo at the time was to play Balance and then respond by sacrificing all my lands to Zuran Orb. Good, wholesome Magic!

Ah, yes. I quickly transitioned to a deck like this as my next competitive deck once I learned about the power of the skull. In fact, I basically used Necro in every Standard deck I played as long as it was legal (which was for a while because Necro was inexplicably reprinted in 5th edition!).

lol imagine paying hundreds/thousands just to play a game that your opponent won't let you do anything
