Even though Cardboard Crack is just a stick figure comic, sometimes it can take me a little while to get the artwork correct. For the recent comic that features ghosts (see the final version here), I had to figure out how I wanted to show two ghosts playing Magic for the first time in Cardboard Crack. I started by doing some sketches, like this one:

Once I felt happy with the look of the ghosts, I drew the full comic. Here was the first version of it:

Even though I was done, something about this comic just didn't feel right to me. The ghosts felt like they had a weird shape that was distracting me from the punchline. So I went back to sketching the ghosts again. I thought back to Pac-Man and the shape of the ghosts in that game. So this time trying a wider shape, which I felt made the ghosts look cuter:

Once I was happy with this, I went back and redrew the comic, making the final version you saw. Here's a comparison between the initial and final versions:

Even though Cardboard Crack is simple, because there are so few lines, there's even greater emphasis on trying to get every line correct.

I hope you enjoyed this behind the scenes look. Happy Halloween!

kinda a lot for the $5 tier, I'll downshift and just read the other comics that I enjoyed (was kinda on the fence between this and the other books). Edit: did find you can filter by tier, and nothing after 2020 with only about 14 or so in total, so I'm half right, no big deal, just had to know as recent stuff for higher tiers can be unintuitive to find.
