Here's one for the old fogeys like myself. I also remember when Waylay was the white Ball Lightning. Does anyone else remember that?

*hand up* I do! I remember! Then they errated and ruined it.

Ah man. Remember when every legendary card was restricted because the Legend Rule meant you could only ever have one copy of any particular legend, in deck construction? Spike sure does, and she is pulling out that Elder Dragon to kick your butt.

I had to figure out the rules of Magic from their old Microprose game. It wasn't easy. That included mana burn (which I finally grasped), and frustration with Prodigal Sorcerer when I couldn't figure out why tapping them to attack didn't do that point of damage. I also figured out things that were really good (the dual lands, the moxes, Black Lotus) and wondered what the downsides were (I didn't know about rarity then). There was other weird stuff like learning how to use the mana batteries, and figuring out that Bad Moon impacted all black creatures, not just your own.

We still have mana burn in some Old School formats (but the rest of the modern rules). But yes, I miss all these things (maybe not batches, but there is a lot to be said for the 6E rules cleanup). Lol at Waylay, which went from 2 cents to like $15 instantly.

I remember all these rules.

Nope. You must be crazy! ;)

Ah, I miss Shandalar so much. I used to do the most broken things in the game because you could collect all sorts of power and the decks could be only 40 cards. Decks full of mox jets, sink holes, dark rituals, and mind twists were my jam!

Stephen Hines

The best thing about Shandalar was duplicating your restricted cards. So broken, but then again, you had to play against opponents that got to start out with creatures like Serra Angel in play, so it all balances out.
