Good evening everyone!

I am delighted to finally present you with A Guide to Higurashi's Bonus Arcs, yet another stupidly long video from yours truly.

I can't believe it's finally done! I think it's fair to say this ended up being a much bigger project than I anticipated--I am now laughing at me of two months ago who somehow thought that I'd be able to get this thing to under 30 minutes (I'm impressed I managed under an hour). It's been a lot of work, but I think it's paid off and I hope I was able to make the video as fun and engaging as it aims to be concise and informative. There were lots of challenges throughout the process of making this, but comparing it to the last guide video I did, I think it's clear how far I've come and so that makes me proud to see.

I'm still finishing up one last thing I'll be adding to the description in the next few hours (ways to access these arcs) and I'll be trying to add closed captions tomorrow before the video goes live for everyone, but if not by then, then definitely within the next few days. I had hoped to have them ready before putting the video up on here, but considering how long this has taken, I also wanted to get it to you all as soon as possible, so apologies for that and I'll aim to have closed captions up from the second you all get access to videos in the future.

I'm sure there's a lot more I could and would say but I'm frankly too tired to think, so for now I'll leave you with the video and the promise that we'll talk again soon! I look forward to seeing you all in the comments either here or on YouTube as I think there's lots to discuss with this one. I sincerely hope you all enjoy the video and I'll be back very soon.

(P.S. Look at all those pretty chapters! I feel like a real YouTuber now!)

If the main series left you hungry for more, look no further than this guide to its extensive list of bonus arcs and numerous hidden gems. Hinamizawa isn't done with you yet! How to find each of these arcs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AcMqdBrRhFvAQh_NQBKrXQ5aeLLSkEmx7HbXrnq_PvU/edit?usp=sharing The differences in each version of Miotsukushi (I’m actually still a little unclear on which changes correspond to which version of the arc after looking at this but I played Omote so just download that one from their installer if you want the arc I described): https://07th-mod.com/wiki/Higurashi/MiotsukushiFAQ/ Regarding the retconning in the Advanced Story (major spoilers ahead): in the original story, we hear a little about Rena’s experiences undergoing psychiatric treatment after her breakdown in Ibaraki and how much she hated the medication she had to take. I had taken this to be general exploration of people’s experiences with anti-psychotic medication as many people do indeed have negative experiences with this and psychiatric treatment in general (see my video “How Higurashi Scares Us” for in-depth discussion of this). In the AS, we find out the reason this medication had such adverse effects on Rena is because it hadn’t gone through proper clinical trials and was instead being tested on directly on unconsenting patients. Tomoe subsequently discovers Natsumi has been prescribed this same medication and that it is largely responsible for both girls’ breakdowns as part of her untangling on the political and medical scandal central to the arc. While arguably expanding on the same discussions, I don't think this additional information regarding the drug was necessary to explain the girls’ behaviour over their general mental distress/psychosis, and I thought it took away a little from what had come across to me as a worthwhile discussion of people’s experiences with regular psychiatric medication. Medication doesn’t have to be the product of improperly conducted patient trials to have a negative impact, and mental breakdowns don't have to be incited by dodgy medication when general mental illness and distress already exist, basically. I hope you will do a detailed breakdown of Gou/Sotsu when it’s done.
