A Look Back: Shion Sonozaki: Deconstructing the Yandere Trope (Podcast) (Patreon)

Hey guys!

Here's the commentary podcast for Shion Sonozaki: Deconstructing the Yandere Trope! There were lots of different interesting bits and pieces to talk about in this one -- this video has been instrumental to my YouTube ~career~ in a lot of different ways. I hope you enjoy listening to it! Next month I'll be talking about Full Metal Panic!: KyoAni's Forgotten Masterpiece, so if you have any questions about that one, fire away.

Things I spoke about in the podcast/other relevant links:

The website is undergoing maintenance right now but this is a good page from Mind (a leading mental health charity here in the UK) explaining why personality disorder diagnoses are controversial

And this is a good article providing an overview of debates in this area (I should also say that my claim that personality disorders should be removed from the DSM doesn't mean I don't think the core concepts couldn't stay just under a different name/with a different framing)

The drama CD version of Kage

The version of you sung by Satsuki Yukino

Not mentioned in the podcast but this is a great video where Satsuki Yukino talks a bit about her experience playing the twins and mentions something I talk about in the podcast (that you can't really read Shion from her actions alone/without her internal monologue)

Finally, also not mentioned but some incredible Shion/Meakashi fanart I've seen recently that I feel really capture the essence of the arc/her character: 1 2
