This solo segment from SHINee World 2016 serves as an amazing example of just how well the individual members of the world's shiniest group could stand on their own as soloists, even back in 2016!

To be honest, I didn’t like this solo concert choice? I think another Tokio Dome performances are better. Aside this, watching this I noticed how much the guys have grown as solo artists and performers since then. Check out their solo stuff, they are even more awesome now 🥰

The dancers were wearing some of the outfits/looks styled by Key himself, you could see him wearing all of these in the pictures on the screen behind. I'm sure all of K-pop artists promoting in Japan put effort into learning Japanese at least to some extent. SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and have an extensive Japanese discography. Taemin, Key, Minho and Onew all also released some solo content in Japanese. They are some of the best at it among K-pop artists as they can pretty much hold conversations by themselves during concerts and fanmeets in Japan. They would sometimes use interpreters help for some more advanced expressions and deeper topics at the interviews or shows though so I wouldn't say they are totally fluent (it might seem so to fans that don't know any Japanese) but they are definitely conversationally proficient. I'm saying this as someone who had learned Japanese for almost 10 years and is highly proficient in it (I translated the speaking parts in this clip FYI) and I'd say that Key, Taemin, and Onew are the most proficient/have the best pronunciation though. Contrary to this performance, Minho tends to have bit more of an accent when speaking but he's good too and he slayed this performance, love to see some Minho appreciation! Shawols are famous for their synchronized loud fanchants. At joint concerts (such as SMTown, festivals etc.) other fandoms often film Shawols. I already explained in the DM's but just to confirm, the song 'Kiseki' was used as an OST for a Japanese drama about baseball, thus why Minho is dressed as a pitcher and put on this whole baseball skit. It's a very popular song in Japan and plus Tokyo Dome itself is designed as baseball stadium and is home of Tokyo Giants - one of the major teams. Although their national sport is sumo, baseball is the biggest and most popular sport in Japan. So I think it was just fitting. Somehow their Tokyo Dome edition concerts always had the best quality (better than the ones in Korea), even the one from 2014 Tokyo Dome looks pretty much the same as this one. I guess they really maximize the potential of technology at hand with the best cameras and equipment that was available at that time. They are always grand and high-budget. I'm quite surprised you didn't know Nessun Dorma, it's one of the most famous tenor arias in all opera (from Puccini's opera Turandot) :D most notably performed by Luciano Pavarotti and yeah it's of course in Italian. To my knowledge no one else has ever sung or could sing opera among idols but there is ONEW flexing it. SHINee can do it all literally. Onew is one hell of a criminally overlooked vocalist in the K-pop industry. He's definitely one of the best overall but hardly anyone ever mentions him outside of the fandom. This concert probably no violins, but they had a whole orchestra playing behind them for the performance of 'Love' (Japanese ballad) at the 2014 SHINee World Tokyo Dome edition. All of the members have their own distinctive styles to their solos but Taemin and Jonghyun have the most unique and different ones from SHINee IMO. You don't often hear something like Crazy (Guilty Pleasure) in K-pop at all, and same for many of his other songs, his artistry transcends K-pop. A true Poet Artist (just like his last album is called). I think the word you were looking for is ICON, SHINee are definitely icons as a group and as individuals. The Tokyo Dome seat capacity is roughly 55K and when they embark on tours in Japan it's across multiple cities with dozens of concerts so the overall ticket sales comes at hundreds of thousands. The regular concerts of the tour had a different setlist and only the 'special edition' leg of the tour included this solo set (in Kyocera (Osaka) and Tokyo Domes). If you only base it on views and Shawol online presence then sure it might seem that SHINee is not as big as one might think. They have never been as big as the top leading groups in popularity but nonetheless are some of the most well known, accomplished artists in K-pop and within K-pop communities both in Korea and internationally. And while, yes, I'd say for the amount of talent and power that these men hold they should probably be twice or three times as big, no disrespect but I wouldn't have it any other way and risk to become another ARMY or Blinks. It's perfect as it is, SHINee are incredibly respected and looked up to artists by other idols and rightfully so.

Thanks for the info, did not know that! But then Onew is the only one who's not classicaly trained and yet he did such a great job with it. Sheer talent!

Well if you're talking about overall group performances then for sure, but the idea behind this request was to sorta introduce Valen and Theo to individual member capabilities and let them shine on their own since they will eventually be getting into their solos one by one and already started with Taemin. There's only a few choices when it comes to solo segments that include all members, especially with any of their original songs, and this is my personal favorite :)

It’s ok, I understand why those were chosen but I just don’t like them? Personal opinion. They have better songs

All SHINee members are fluent in Japanese. They speak full Japanese during their concert and fanmeets. They have also have tons of Japanese content guesting in so many tv shows too and they can freely converse in Japanese. Aside from Japanese, Key is also fluent in English.

Just like in Korea, SHINee's Japanese concerts (along with their other concert tours) are filled with several segments each with their own theme. Apart from intense performance, ballads and others, there are kawaii and playful sections as well.

Sarjie

The clips they play prior to each solo performance were all from their previous Japanese concerts. The last clips were from from their 2014 I'm Your Boy Tokyo Dome concert, including Taemin with the gun. Hope you get to check those performances as well. Overall i like their solo segments there more than these.

Lawol

They dont have these better songs in one solo segment from a group concert though. They'll react to the member's individual work separately don't worry. This is exactly meant to be a first look at where they started and by reacting to them more they'll see the progression and how far they've come, as you said.

Nowadays, They are not showcasing their solo stuffs anymore in Shinee concerts, since all of them are throwing their own solo concerts and too many song options to show case in Shinee concerts. Too many until it is very difficult to choose which songs showcase and which songs to give up for group concerts. Fans have different wish list for the group concerts.
