[WARNING: Loki spoilers below]
So, there is a thing that happens to us all the time. I assume it's something that happens to any person who attempts to make things, as opposed to some customized fundamental law that hates us, but still: we tend to make things that end up getting made by other, more famous people later.
It's happened a bunch of times, most recently with Loki. The part where it gets really weird is that Mike ended up running a side story for his players where there were various permutations of the character that didn't really fit the mold - one was a woman! Very shocking stuff - and that is also somewhere in there. It's too much! There might only be so many ways these stories can go together. We're reaching a kind of Taco Bell situation, where the theoretical permutations of their seven ingredients have reached their savory apogee.
Part of the reason it can only bother me so much is that I'd already seen it work this way, but in reverse. I'm not really a comic person - I was a voracious reader of comics my friends bought, but I never got way in there. The only comics I ever followed fully were Y: The Last Man, Powers, Ruse, Saga, and the subgenre called "Comics by Alan Moore." When Mike and I were first working on things together in high school, he needed a villain origin story. I produced one I thought would work well, and it may well have, arguably it did, because it was a beat for beat recreation of Magneto. He didn't even tell me at the time. He told me later, after the project had stalled and we weren't working on it anymore. I am, to this day, impressed by his forbearance.
