So basically a mutant. I had an idea for a big scary mutant taking the reader back to their base, saving them from a gang of scavenger hunters or something when they’d been wounded. Mutant boy doesn’t take his mask off initially, scared he’ll terrify what’s left of the living daylights out of you. But when you get over the initial shock of seeing various glimpses of his unusual body, he’s surprised by how gentle you are with him. You’ve heard of ‘sentient’ mutants like him before, so you’re not as prejudiced/terrified as he thought you would be. In fact, you find him rather attractive...
