Deor - Legolas' (fictional) son (Patreon)

So a few of you may have seen that I did a little Lord of the Rings fanfic the other day (not published anywhere yet), but I had a weird dream about Legolas' son, who had had a run in with some spiders in Mirkwood as a young child, and was blinded. 

His name, Deor, comes from an Anglo-Saxon poem of the same name, which is told by a scop or singer/poet, and which was very influential on Tolkien's writing, so I thought it was appropriate. 

He has some sight remaining, namely a blurry patch of light and dark sensitivity in his lower left field of vision. His experience with being blind is based on my step-dad's. My dad (he's been in my life since I was 2yrs old or so and is like my dad to all intents and purposes) suffered sudden onset glaucoma about 10 years ago, rendering him blind in one eye, and his vision is severely reduced in the other, so I have a fair idea about the practicalities of being vision impaired through living with him. He now has a cataract in his 'good' eye (which actually has only 50% or so vision anyway), so it's getting worse... 

Anyway, back to Deor. He's very young (for an elf), and he's quite frigid and icy at first, but once you get to know him, he's sensitive and sweet. His best friend is Itarielle ('starlight' in Sindarin), and his grey stallion is called Nahar. He's really good at hand-to-hand combat (think judo or aikido), and has the voice of an angel. In the books, Legolas has a beautiful voice, so I figured why not his son too :). 

He is Thranduil's grandson, and has Thranduil's icy blond hair, and Legolas' bright blue eyes, though they're a bit milky and damaged. 

Deor becomes friends with Aragorn and Arwen's son, Eldarion, when they visit Mirkwood with him when the boy is six years old (Deor is about 13yrs old at the time). Their friendship blossoms over the years, and Eldarion visits again when he's 13 and Deor is 20. Although Deor is so much more mature than him at that stage, they write to each other, Itarielle taking over from Legolas as Deor gets older and starts to get embarrassed by having his dad read out letters from a 16yr old pubescent boy...!! 

Eldarion (aka 'Darion') visits again when he's 18yrs old, and he's definitely matured. He's the Crown Prince of Gondor, with two younger sisters to watch out for as well, and a lot of responsibility on his young (and really rather broad) shoulders. 

Deor remains slender and slim, but strong and supple, and the two find their relationship changing as Darion's stay lengthens... 

Darion is an outgoing prince, who is now experienced in love and in the bedroom, while Deor is a recluse, keeping to himself, and has never so much as kissed another...
