Just a warning for this one, there is a brief encounter with a transphobic ex in this, in which some unpleasant things are said, but I’ve kept it to a very bare minimum, including the language, because the story doesn’t centre around that. If you want to skip it though, it begins at ““Saw you out there,” he said, jutting his chin out” and ends with “The female gnoll caught your eye”. Even though it’s nsfw, no ‘original parts’ are mentioned. Other than that, it’s just a tale of two girls falling for each other.

The group home was actually quiet for once. Five of the kids had had a furious snowball fight in the large garden at the back, and had worn themselves out to the point of exhaustion. Now they had curled up or were lounging on colossal beanbags in the little room known as ‘the den’, eating pizza and watching a movie. There was a good mix of folks, from gnolls and minotaurs to half-bloods of indeterminate heritage. Sadly, many of the kids in your care were half-bloods, who often found themselves without a family, and so they formed their own tight-knit pack here. You knew what an awful reputation some group homes had, and how truly awful life in the system could be for some children, so you poured everything short of your actual literal soul into that place, and maybe even then it took a little bit of that anyway. But as long as they had a stable and happy home to grow up in, you couldn’t begrudge even that.

You’d come to work at the place after the previous couple had needed to retire, and even now, you were still in touch with them, and they visited frequently. They’d renovated the Victorian-era home themselves, making sure there were rooms in the modern extension accessible on the ground floor for quadrupedal creatures like centaurs and cervitaurs, as well as anyone with mobility issues. June was now an elderly centaur herself, so it made visiting a lot easier for her. Yours was a home open to anyone, human or otherwise, but mostly it was non-humans who swelled the ranks of lost kids looking for a place to call home.

Amongst the number of kids in your charge at the moment, you had a thirteen year old minotaur boy who was an absolute handful at the moment, his horns just growing in and unfathomable amounts of testosterone flooding his system, and a half faun who had some serious osteopathic issues with her legs. There was also a half-fae who had suffered appalling abuse, and the sweetest little ooze boy who, being only four years old, still found it very difficult to hold a recognisable form most of the time. There were others too, and here you were, a young human woman, trying to wrangle all of them. Luckily, you did not have to do it alone.

Rex, a huge, bison-headed minotaur was the best support you could ever have wished for, and in fact, he had been a kid at the home himself. It had been his idea to take over the home from his adoptive parents, and when he had found it too much to handle on his own, he had put up an advert in the local paper. You’d been there ever since. It was tough and stressful and draining, but it had its wonderful moments too.

As you cradled little Tilki, the four year old ooze, in your lap while he slept, you heard the front doorbell go. Kiar, a seventeen year old harpy boy with long black hair, and one blue eye and one black, eased himself out of a chair on the other side of the living room, setting down his novel, and went to open it for you without a word. A moment later, you heard soft voices in the hallway, and Kiar appeared in the doorway, his lanky frame sending a long shadow across the scrubbed wooden boards of the living room.

“Hey, sorry to bother you,” he whispered, keeping half an eye on Tilki, “But there’s a woman at the door who says she used to live here…”

“Oh?” you asked, and gently tipped the snoozing ooze out onto the sofa cushion beside you. He didn’t change shape from his black, gelatinous puddle, and you smiled in triumph at having not woken him. “Thanks Kiar,” you smiled, and he nodded shyly.

“Alight if I go back to my book?”

“Yeah, that’s fine. Thank you, I’ll handle it.”

You stepped out into the hallway and saw a tiefling standing outside on the doorstep, looking around with curiosity and interest in her features. She was gorgeous. Long white hair flowed down over one shoulder, and a cosy-looking, tan coloured coat kept the fresh winter air out. Her horns were dark and ridged, curving gently backwards over her head, and highlighted with a warm grey tone that reminded you of polished flint. Her skin was a cool blue, flushed a little darker on her cheeks from the cold, and as you approached, you caught a flash of the most vivid, violet eyes you’d ever seen, outlined in heavy kohl. She looked incredible, and for a moment, you forgot how to breathe.

“Hi,” she said when she saw you just standing there like an idiot, her voice a husky, rich, deep alto. “I know this is a bit… unorthodox, but…” She shuffled her feet nervously and you smiled.

“Come in,” you said. “It’s freezing out there.”

She smiled and stepped softly over the threshold and gazed around.

“Kiar said you used to live here?” you asked as you closed the door behind her, and she nodded. She looked about your age, so you asked, “I assume that was with June and Alistor?”

She nodded. “Yeah, June took me in at sixteen. I was… I was having a tough time, let’s just say. They were both very patient with me. Anyway, I just moved back to the area about a month ago for work, and I thought I’d just call in and see how the place is doing now.”

“We’re doing alright,” you smiled. “It gets a bit hectic at times - you know how it is…”

The tiefling grinned mischievously, giving you a glimpse of her sharp canines, and your stomach flipped over at the sight of the dimples in her cheeks.

Rex emerged from the kitchen a moment later, a big, steaming mug of tea in his hand with “Beefcake” written on the side. Seeing you talking to someone, he came over to introduce himself and make sure everything was alright. You didn’t miss the way she looked him briefly up and down, taking in his impressive muscles and towering height with obvious appreciation, and your heart sank, though you weren’t quite sure why it should. You’d been attracted to women since your very first flutterings of sexuality, but you’d never told a soul. You suspected that your big bison-headed best friend knew, but even to him you hadn’t felt like opening up with this secret.

“Wait, I know you!” he boomed at your visitor, grinning. “I remember you!”

“I did wonder if you’d recognise me,” she grinned. “You’ve changed a bit yourself though…” She turned to you and added, “I’m Leisel. Rex and I overlapped here for a year or so before he went off to Uni.”

“Good to meet you, Leisel,” you said. “And welcome back! You want a tour of the public spaces? See if much has changed?”

She pursed her dark, shadowy blue lips together and then bit her lower lip with her sharp canine. At the sight of it, you felt a stirring inside you at the little gesture, and looked away. When you turned back to her, she still had her violet eyes fixed on you. “I’d love to,” she said, “But I don’t want to impose.”

“Not a problem,” you said in a gabbled rush.

In that moment, her eyes lit up just a little, and she hitched a slightly lopsided and playful smile at you. “Lead on then.”

As you showed her around, you listened to her praise the way you’d updated it and made it homely, while keeping the character of the old home that June and Alistor had created together. “Sounds like it was an important place for you,” you hedged.

Leisel nodded. “Yeah,” she said, twisting her long, silver-white hair between her blue fingers. “It was. They were so good to me. I’d never have got into the career I’m in now without their support. I’ve kept in touch with them, vaguely. I wrote to say I was coming back.”

“You plan on visiting them?”

“Maybe,” she said. “Taking it slow though…”

You nodded in understanding, and as you moved towards the kitchen and offered her a cup of tea, she gazed out at the trampled snow in the garden and crossed to the window. You had the chance to admire her a little more as she turned her back to you. Her body was slim, but not particularly curvaceous, and there was the raw sensuality to her that all tieflings seemed to exude without even trying. The way she rested one ankle crossed behind the other as she stood and surveyed the garden through the panel in the back door was inexplicably alluring.

She didn’t take you up on the offer of tea, but instead sighed heavily and said, “I should really be getting going.”

“Oh, ok,” you faltered, walking awkwardly by her side as you showed her back towards the front door. “Well, I’m glad you stopped by, and I hope you know you’re always welcome here… You could come back another day…” You’d have been lying if you weren’t trying to get her to come back just so you could see her again.

Leisel’s beautiful eyes narrowed slightly and she smiled a tiny, knowing smile. “I’m not sure that’d be appropriate, but thank you.”

“Oh,” you said, flushing hot in the face with embarrassment. “Of course not. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean…”

“It’s alright,” she said in a low purr. “But maybe if I give you my number, we could arrange to meet up somewhere and have a drink, talk about other stuff, get to know each other?”

Your heart soared at her bold confidence, and you nodded. “Yes! I’d love that,” you blurted nervously, instantly regretting your impulsive emotions.

“Good,” she said, and held out her hand for you to give her your phone. “There,” she smiled when it was in your addresses, and she touched you lightly on the shoulder for the briefest of seconds. “Thank you.”

“See you,” you said stupidly, standing in the doorway and watching her retreat into the chilly, dark night, just as a fresh flurry of snow began to fall.

You messaged her the next day, managing to restrain yourself only until the afternoon, and you were delighted to receive a reply immediately.

After that, you couldn’t stop smiling, practically dancing around the place as you hummed softly to yourself.

“What’s got you so excited?” Rex asked, coming into the kitchen where you were making a birthday cake for Evaline, the half-faun.

You turned and fixed him with a curious expression. “What makes you say I’m excited?” you asked.

He laughed a rough, deep laugh. “You’re all twitchy today,” he said, leaning his massive body against the counter and crossing his arms. “Spill.”

With roll of your eyes, you came clean about Leisel asking you for drinks.

“I knew it!” he beamed. “I knew you liked her!”

“Shut it, Beefburger,” you snorted, which only made him laugh all the harder. He came up behind you and lowered his big nose to the curve of your neck and snorted a final laugh down your collar, which made you shriek and spray icing sugar up into the air in a huge cloud, dusting his dark brown curls with white. “Serves you right!” you coughed.

“You look ridiculous as well,” he retorted playfully, letting his long, bovine tongue lap up as much of the sugar from his muzzle as he could reach before retreating, presumably to wash the fine white powder from his thick, dark, curly coat.

Leisel and you texted almost non-stop between that first message and the last five minutes before your date. It turned out that you had the same taste in literature and films, give or take, and you spent a whole evening dissecting the merits of one in particular, until Leisel announced that she had to go to bed to be up in time for work the next day.

The bar she had suggested was a local LGBT+ bar, which you’d wanted to visit so often, but had never worked up the nerve. Leisel met you outside, and you gasped when you saw her. She looked stunning in high boots and a short skirt, with thick black tights underneath to keep the cold from her skin, and a form-fitting jacket to keep out the wind. Her hair was plaited back off her face, running down between her twin horns which had been adorned with decorative, gold caps at the end this time. You felt practically slovenly by comparison, but she didn’t seem to think so.

“You look amazing,” you breathed, and she grinned and leaned down to hug you. She was taller than you, but not by much, given that tieflings didn’t tend to be a particularly tall species on the whole. You opened the door for her and she practically skipped inside. Leisel was in her element there, and seemed to know almost everyone already, despite the fact that she’d only been in the area for a month or so.

You ordered at the bar and took a seat, letting the music and ambiance wash through you. “I can’t believe you’ve not been here before!” she said, seeming genuinely astonished. “I mean, it was the first place I came after I got here when I wanted to go out!”

You shrugged awkwardly and had been about to admit that you weren’t technically ‘out’ yet, when your drinks were pushed gently towards you by the slender naga who worked behind the bar. You thanked him and he grinned at you, his green Mohawk fluorescing for a moment as he passed through the beam of a UV light, and a multitude of little glowing freckles appeared and disappeared as he moved through the various lights behind the bar. You took a massive gulp and discovered it was very strong, but resisted the urge to cough with watering eyes, and then said, “Well… I haven’t exactly told anyone that I’m gay, so…”

“Oh shit,” Leisel blurted, swallowing her drink too quickly and spluttering. “I’m so sorry! Shit, I had no idea. Do you want to leave? I didn’t mean… Fuck, I just assumed. And me of all people…” she shook her head and stared at her boots for a moment.

“Hey,” you grinned, emboldened by her display of chagrin and possibly by the rush of about a week’s worth of alcohol hitting your bloodstream in one go. You took her hand and squeezed her cool fingers. “It’s fine. I’ve actually wanted to come for ages, but I’ve never had the guts. You gave me a reason to, so… thanks?”

She looked up at you through her lashes and smiled, which sent a shot of relief and something else through your whole body. You’d never seen someone so enchanting in your whole life, and began to wonder if the tales of tiefling magic were true.

Conversation picked up again after that, and she introduced you to a couple of folks who she knew as they came over to grab drinks, and as the evening wore on, you found yourself more and more drawn to her in a way you’d never allowed yourself to be drawn to anyone before. She was the most intoxicating combination of confident and vulnerable, loud and sensitive, and for the first time in your life, you found yourself dancing with another woman in plain sight, amongst a whole crowd of others who paid you frankly very little attention because of it. It was nice. No, it was more than nice. It was downright magical.

The song changed, and Leisel bit her lip again, her hands on your hips, and tugged you close. She leaned down, her plait swinging forwards in the space between you, and asked, “Can I kiss you?”

You nodded shyly, wondering in the fleeting seconds before her lips met yours, if kissing another woman would be any different from kissing a man. It was, if maybe more from a mental point of view, and you loved it. It was right, and as her hand shifted to the back of your neck, you leaned into the gesture, your body coming alive at her touch. She pulled back and grinned at you, twirling you round and then tugging you close. Her eyes sparkled with pure, infectious joy, and honestly, your cheeks ached from smiling.

Leisel excused herself at the end of the next song, and you took yourself over to a quiet corner to cool off a bit. No sooner had you parked yourself on a comfortable seat than a figure stepped up and filled your view of the dance floor, and your heart dropped. The man standing in front of you was someone you had hoped never to run into again. Tall, imposing, and very much the epitome of the ‘shit-bag ex’, Mark was the last person you wanted to see there.

“Saw you out there,” he said, jutting his chin out and leaning his weight down on the back of your chair, effectively fencing you in.

You raised an eyebrow. “So?”

“You think you’re looking for something different, but really, what’s underneath is the same,” he snorted.

Confusion twisted your face, and you regretted the fact that you were an open book to anyone, him most of all. “What?”

He froze, and then a look of pure delight washed over his face, and he belted out a great, booming, ugly laugh. “You don’t even know, do you?” he said, still chortling with amusement. “That ‘woman’ you’re dancing with… she ain’t no real woman, honey…”

You stood up so abruptly that you caught him off guard and managed to tip him backwards. He reeled backwards in surprise and bumped into a really huge gnoll behind him. The female turned and growled a warning at him, but he ignored her in favour of turning back to you.

“What are you even doing here, Mark?” you snarled. “I didn’t know you swung both ways.”

“You clearly don’t,” he carried on snickering.

“Fuck off,” you said.

“Curiosity, I guess,” he said by way of answering your question, gazing around.

The female gnoll caught your eye over his shoulder and cocked her head to one side with an expression that clearly asked ‘problem?’. You flashed her a pleading look, and she grinned toothily. Grabbing your ex by the collar, she simply picked him up and carried him out onto the street, tossing him down into the snow with a snarl.

In her wake, you saw Leisel standing there. Clearly, she had overheard everything that your vile ex had said, and it had shaken her deeply.

“Leisel, are you alright?”

She sighed.

“Look, Mark is a vile creature, and I’m so sorry you had to see him here. This is frankly the last place I’d ever have expected to run into him.” She didn’t move for a moment, and you stepped closer. “Leisel? You know I don’t agree with him, right? Whatever he meant, I… I don’t think…”

Her violet eyes were hard and suspicious for just a moment longer, and then she let out the breath she’d been holding onto. “I guess you really didn’t know after all, did you?” she asked.

Realisation dropped through you like a stone and you heard his words echoing back at you: ‘ain’t no real woman, honey’.

“It’s fine if I’m not what you’re looking for,” she said in a rehearsed tone of voice that said clearly that she’d been through this before, and felt the absolute opposite about what she was saying.

“No, wait,” you said. “Stop. I don’t want to have this conversation here. I know now, and I’m sorry you didn’t get to tell me in your own time.”

“I kind of hoped you already knew… that Rex might have already told you or something…”

“I’m not sure he knows…?” you said.

“He does. I came out as trans in the year that we overlapped at the home.”

Her voice was eerily calm, and you wanted so much for the lively, happy Leisel to come back. “Please,” you said, daring to touch her forearm with trembling fingers. This had all been going so well, and you were terrified that it was all going to shatter to pieces around you if you said the wrong thing. “Please, don’t judge me by my ex… He’s an absolute ass, and I never should have had anything to do with him in the first place… Of course, I only found that out too late, but that’s a different story. Look, if you still want to see where this goes, I’d very much like to…”

She stared at you for another few calculating moments, and then took a deep breath. “Ok. I do,” she said. “But let’s get out of here?”

You nodded.

As you turned back you saw the gnoll returning, and she raised her paw in a high-five. You grinned at her, and met her gesture with an enthusiastic response. “Thanks…”

“No worries,” she laughed. “He’s gone home with his tail between his legs, and I don’t think he’ll be coming back.”

The street outside was filling up with snow, but it was devoid of life, and the two of you hurried through it back towards her city apartment.

She let you inside and once you’d taken your shoes off, you slid your fingers nervously into her hand and tugged her gently to a halt in the hallway. “Wait,” you said gently. “Leisel, wait.”

She turned and gazed at you with her deep, violet eyes.

“Tell me this is ok?” you whispered. “I’ve never dated a woman before - trans or not - and it was all going so well until my ex turned up and ruined everything. I can’t take back what he said, but it doesn’t change how I feel about you. Just… can we take things slow?”

With a nod, she said, “I’d like that.”

And you did take things slow. She told you to feel free to ask whatever you liked, but warned you that she might be reluctant to answer it immediately, which you reassured her was fine, and you made sure she knew that she was to feel free correct you if you made any assumptions or used outdated or incorrect language. You learned more about her personal experiences, and what she was and wasn’t comfortable with, and in time, it felt more natural. It was an awkward beginning, but it did pass over the months you spent getting to know each other, and in what felt simultaneously like forever and yet no time at all, you were clowning around in her living room, with her holding the remote out of your reach as you fought to turn off some god-awful reality TV show that she adored.

That was how you ended up on top of her, straddling her, and the moment you rocked your hips against her, she rolled her eyes and her whole attitude shifted from playful to sultry in a heartbeat.

She turned the TV off with a gesture and dropped the remote, letting it fall to the floor with clatter, sitting up and grabbing your face, pulling you into a fierce and passionate kiss that made your head spin. Her hands wandered down your body and you groaned again, feeling heat instantly pool between your legs.

“Come on,” she said, and signalled for you to get off her.

Leisel grabbed your hand and tugged you towards her bedroom, pushing you roughly back onto her bed and immediately undoing your jeans and sliding your clothes off you. She roughly parted your legs and bit her lip at the sight of you, moaning and closing her eyes again briefly. “You’re so beautiful,” she purred, and knelt on the bed, bringing her fingertips to your wet sex. She stroked you over and over in loving circles until your body was quaking and shuddering under her touch.

Her blue skin was flushed dark with desire as she stared at you, never breaking eye contact, though you found your own eyelids fluttering shut as you lost yourself in her ministrations. She ran two fingers around your outer lips, sending a thrill through your whole body, until you whined, “Please, Leisel, please… more…”

With a grin, she lowered her head between your legs and pressed her tongue across your clit. The searing heat of it was almost too much, until she began to move, lapping gently, and you let out a deep, guttural groan.

Her horns looked so inviting and you reached down, grabbing them, which made her hands cling to your hips in desperation. She liked that then. She pressed her tongue against your clit and released you with one hand, sliding two fingers into you and crooking them instantly. The sensation of her tongue on your nub and her fingers filling you, pushing hard against the little spot inside you that made you see stars, was enough to tip you over the edge, and you came hard. She didn’t back off, pressing her fingers into you until you thought you might just pass out.

Eventually she withdrew, licking her fingers clean and moaning. “You come so beautifully,” she said. “I wanna make you go again. Can I?”

“What about you?” you panted, heartbeat thundering in your ears.

“Afterwards,” she said. “I want to see you come again first.”

You slumped back into the pillows and said, “Come here first, opening one arm and letting her slide her head onto your shoulder. She kissed you, and you tasted yourself on her lips, but in no time her hands began to wander over your body, and she started to get impatient.

“Well,” you said. “I’m not going to stop you, that’s for sure…”

With a grin, she got to work again.
