I put together an aesthetic based on a very odd dream I had about a fae with long white hair and a very ornate mask.

I don’t know if they are sighted or not, but they have to keep a blindfold over their eyes at all times outside of the innermost parts of the temple. The power of their gaze is immense, but they can also see into the futures and pasts of the folk they encounter, so it’s overwhelming if they’re out and about and don’t have their eyes covered. There’s also a superstition about meeting a seer’s gaze which is largely rubbish and hokum, but still, folks don’t like to look a priest or priestess in the eye...

When they join the temple they also receive their tattoos which not only mark them out as seers and priests, but help to channel their magic through their bodies. Being a seer often involves dealing - physically and mentally - with huge surges of magic, so the specific tattoos help to buffer and channel it. The stronger the gift of magic, the more extensive the tattoo coverage...

I have a vast and nebulous fae realm idea in my head, and a proper fae story too, with lots of different kinds of fae, from little brownies and sprites, kelpies, seasonal and elemental sprites and fairies, to monstrous dark fae that even the princes don’t want to face without help...

Back when I posted my long idea thing about the blind fae prince (theme here much?! *sigh* - I do have a folder on my laptop called ‘same characters searching for a story’) I talked about the various fae princes and princesses who are all in charge of their own realms and territories, and then there’s the ruling fae - the king, queen and crown prince/princess - who are the overarching rulers of all the fae who fall under their respective Seelie or Unseelie Courts...

Anyway, that’s what I have on the fae for you at the moment. Here endeth the fae wafflings for this evening!!

This sounds so interesting! I really love the idea of tattoos channeling their magic. I can just imagine a super powerful fae covered almost entirely with intricate tattoos, and while they look beautiful, I couldn’t help but think of the pain they had to go through to get them, and how they might have struggled before they were done. I also have a HUGE weakness for handsome men with white/silver/grey hair, and the top middle & bottom right pictures in the aesthetic have got me feeling some kinda way 😍 *fans self*

Oooh, I love the ornate mask idea! I 100% changed to Choir set when I played Bloodborne because I was so into that armor set’s headgear lol. I look forward to reading more about your fae realm! I’ve enjoyed reading about different fae mythologies lately and know your take would be a great read😁

Thank you! I’m glad you’re keen for more. I’ve not played any of the Souls or Bloodborne games (and that’s largely because I’m a huge wimp, not because my laptop wouldn’t power it...)
