Jaerhin - Prince of the Court of Fire (Patreon)
Content
Jaehrin (pronounced ‘jay-rin’)
Former dragon (elite) warrior, very powerful fire crafter, six foot, muscular upper body, long red hair and golden eyes, bisexual/romantic.
He was pushed from a window in a botched assassination attempt. Instead of killing him, the fall broke his back, and he now uses a wheelchair.
He and his three brothers are close, and while he’s usually the more serious of the three of them, he’s often laughing and smiling, and he’s really easy going. He’s pissed that he can’t fight the way he used to any more, but he picked up archery, and he still crafts fire. He can ride a horse with a specially adapted saddle, and he hauls himself around with his strong shoulders and rarely needs help with anything.
The three brother's younger sister is fed up with being treated like a precious doll (power of flames runs through the Fire Court males, and women are seen as ‘rulers of the hearth’ while the males are the ‘flame that protects’… I.e. females have little power outside their own households, cannot craft fire, and are expected to bow to the desires of their males [at least in public, anyway]). Evelyn asks her brothers to teach her how to fight and wield a sword etc. This is not how Fire Court women behave, though there is a sect of the Court Guard who are completely made up of women, but they forsake any family name or claims when they join up.
They all train her regardless, and Evelyn also has the ability to wield fire, which is something that only three females in the recorded history of the court (a long time!) have been able to do. Jae is very proud of his lil sis, and they have a good, if jocund and playfully teasing, relationship.
Jaehrin has a gold septum piercing, and a lot of tattoos as well. In the Fae Realm, it is usually only seers require tattoos to help channel and contain their magic, but he nearly destroyed the whole palace when he was only seven years old, and that was when his parents realised he would have to be tattooed in order to control his magic. He has ink that runs from the nape of his neck, all the way over both shoulders, down both arms, down his spine, and down both legs to his toes. This is about as extensive as it gets for power containment, and the only people who have more are the most powerful seers, who could blast a hole in the reality of the Realm with their magic if not contained by the sacred tattoos.
Jae is bisexual, and his bodyguard, Garrad, is an Ember Warrior, winged and a bit less 'human' looking, and they have been best friends since childhood. Garrad (the name is originally derived from the Old German Gerhard which meant spear-brave) wasn't by his side on the day of the assassination attempt, and is eaten up with guilt that his best friend and prince was injured and he didn't stop it. Obviously, Jae does not blame him. They will get a story at some point, I hope!
