“Your majesty,” the glittering courtier crooned, bowing her crystal-studded head low in the presence of the king of the mountain, “Might I request but a moment of your precious time?”

He’d been working for hours, seated upon his magma throne, illuminated by the pulses of light that flashed from the searing veins in the rock, listening to the pleas and problems of his people, and you were getting tired and very, very bored as you sat on the edge of the room, watching. 

His glowing, golden eyes slid from the bowed noble to the side of the hall where you were seated, and they flared like lit coals at the expression you wore. 

“Perhaps another time,” he rumbled in a voice as rough as a landslide, “But for now, I will adjourn.”

As everyone filed out of the chamber, he rose to his full height and crossed the hall towards you and, upon reaching you, the king knelt before you and rumbled, “Forgive me, my love…”
