It was one of those lazy winter evenings, when the night outside was still and frosty, the stems of the remaining plants just beginning to crystallise, when he stepped in through the front door in a blast of icy evening air, closing it behind him and shivering. He took off his scarf and hung it on a peg, and as you padded barefoot out to meet him, he dropped his briefcase and opened his arms.

You moved into his embrace, inhaling the scent of the freezing evening outside that clung to his woollen jumper, burying your nose against his chest.

“Sorry I’m late,” he said in a deep rumble, his hands already cupping the back of your head and one around your shoulders.

“You’re here now,” you said. “There’s some dinner in the pot on the stove still.”

He kissed the top of your head and stroked your hair again. “Thank you,” he said. “You take such good care of me.”

You smiled up at him and popped up on tiptoes to request a proper kiss.

Laughing, your beautiful big orc acquiesced and tilted your chin up with his forefinger, pressing a delicate, gentle kiss against your lips, smiling into the gesture.
