So this was going to be my first offering for Inktober/Orctober with 'ring' as the prompt word, but I decided I wanted to go with something different. Instead of wasting it, I thought I'd share it with my Elves.

It's super fluffy, kind of comfort-reading if you will.

Featuring your big orc best friend, who has a stutter (based on my own, only much more severe in his case), and some good old-fashioned pining…

---

“I…” he faltered. “I mean… um… I’d l-l-like to… to… to ask y-y-you s-s-something…” Ghul’s stutter always got worse when he was anxious, and he fidgeted with his earring too, rolling the pad of his thumb around it.

You reached for him and squeezed his thick forearm reassuringly. “What’s got you so nervous?” you smiled at your best friend as the two of you sat on the couch after supper. It was a weekly ritual you’d established long ago, and it wasn’t often that either of you broke tradition.

His smile brightened his blue eyes and you relaxed a little bit. Whatever it was, it wasn’t too serious. “You’ll l-l-laugh at me,” he blushed.

“C’mon, we’ve known each other since kindergarten,” you said, sliding your arm into his. He was huge, even for an orc, but luckily the two of you were seated on the sofa in your apartment, the wreckage of pizza boxes all around you and the light of the TV illuminating the room, the horror film forgotten already. It hadn’t been all that good anyway.

You tucked your knees up underneath you and turned to face him, still with your arm hooked under his. “I’d never laugh at you,” you said more seriously. “Not… Not about something that mattered to you. What’s on your mind?”

Ghul surprised you then by bringing his right hand up and gently cupping your face. Instinctively, you sighed and leaned into his warm palm before you caught yourself. You’d had a colossal crush on him since high school, but had never wanted to spoil the perfect relationship you already had by admitting as much.

He took a deep breath, his flat nostrils flaring as his chest expanded and he chuckled, looking away. His hand fell back into his lap and he said, “L-Look, I… I wasn’t g-g-gonna say any-anything about it but…” His rapid pulse was visible in his neck and you reached and squeezed his thick, knuckly fingers, encouraging his hand to uncurl from the tight, nervous fist it had made in his lap.

“Ghul… Whatever it is, it’s ok…”

His handsome face split into a grin and he hissed, “Ah, fuck it. I g-guess it’s no secret that I c-c-care for you… right?”

“Right…” you said slowly, your own heartbeat picking up now. He couldn’t be taking this where you thought he was, could he? It would have been more than you’d ever dreamed.

“I…” his speech hit a block, the sound refusing to come out, and he turned away, grinding his great jaw and screwing his eyes shut. “Fuck,” he growled. “I’m s-sorry.”

His stutter was a slow, sticky one, full of repetitions and blocks, and you were well aware of how people treated him because of it. They assumed he was slow or stupid, partly because of his size but mostly because of the stammer. Personally, you’d always loved the lilting rhythm of it, but pointing that out had seemed insensitive somehow. Perhaps you’d been wrong? Perhaps if you’d told him he wouldn’t have felt so self-conscious about it around you?

On a whim, you tapped the back of his hand to get him to lift it clear of his lap, and then before you could chicken out, you swung your leg up over his and straddled his lap. His sky blue eyes went wide and he leaned back against the sofa cushions behind him. He murmured your name in astonishment and you smiled.

“Ghul,” you said very gently.

“Mmm?” he just about managed, looking a little thunderstruck.

“You ok?”

“Yeah,” he rasped. His hands found their way to your hips and his eyelids fluttered closed for a moment. “Fuck, you’re so b-beautiful,” he whispered, the stutter receding as it always did when he lowered the volume.

“What did you want to say?” you asked, placing your hands on his broad shoulders beneath the geeky t-shirt he was wearing.

“Uh…” he said. “It… It’s not…”

“Ghul, of course it’s important…” you said as you leaned back a little, searching his face with your eyes. He had a patch of dark green freckles on each cheekbone and you traced your thumb over them.

The orc’s breath rattled in his chest and he inhaled shakily, sighing before smiling at you. “You alr-already know, don’t you?”

You had more than an inkling by this point and nodded. “I’d still like to hear you say it though.”

“I l-love you,” he said, his tongue tripping gently on the consonant. His hands remained on your hips and as he said it, you felt them tighten slightly. He exhaled roughly and gazed at you with fear in his clear eyes. “Always have…”

Falling forwards, you hugged his thick neck with both arms and pressed a kiss to his cheek. Suddenly his arms came up and wrapped around your body and he held you. His embrace was so tight you felt your ribs creak, but it felt so good to be so close at last.

None of your friends was surprised when you announced that the two of you were dating. You’d never seen Ghul so happy as he was in the first week of your new relationship, not even when he’d got a First at university. He couldn't stop smiling whenever he was with you, and when you were both at work, he’d message you as often as he could.

After a fortnight, he took you out for dinner at a fabulous local place run by a half-fae and spent most of the meal holding your hand with one of his.

“I knew you were a romantic,” you grinned, “But you’re really soppy, you know that?”

He just grinned at you and blushed.

That night when you got back to his place, you wanted more than just the kisses you’d previously shared. So did he if his fervour was anything to go by. He pushed you gently against the hall corridor wall, tilting your face upwards so he could kiss you better. His thick tusks nudged against your cheeks, and he tasted of wine, but his lips were soft and insistent and they made you go weak at the knees. “I love you, Ghul,” you smiled when he drew back. “And I want you…”

“C’mere,” he said and suddenly he’d scooped you up into his arms and was carrying you inside his apartment.

He took you to his bedroom and laid you down on the top of the duvet, before moving to undress you.

“You too, shy boy,” you giggled when you were naked and he was still fully dressed.

He blushed again, his skin flushing dark green, and he nodded, unbuttoning the white shirt with trembling fingers. The tent in his trousers was obvious, and he had a tricky enough time focusing before you’d pressed your palm against the line of his cock. He gasped and groaned at the contact, rolling his hips forwards before taking half a step back, breathing heavily while he took off his trousers.

You knelt up on the bed and his pupils soared wide at the sight of you reaching for the waistband of his boxers. There was already a damp spot in the material, and you leaned forwards and pressed your mouth to the tip of his hard cock, exhaling hot air over him through the fabric.

His knees wobbled and he grabbed hold of your shoulders, his huge hands engulfing them as he cursed.

“Come here,” you said, shuffling backwards to give him more room.

He sank onto his knees and immediately crawled after you. Hands wandered freely, kisses peppered your skin, tusks nudged beautifully, and then he had parted your legs and had his mouth on you.

You lurched wildly as the heat of his tongue enveloped you, and you cried out. “Ghul, that’s so good… oh…” you whimpered and he pressed his tongue hard against your clit, dragging a deep groan from you as your back arched again.

“Keep st-still,” you heard him growl at you as you continued to squirm and writhe beneath him.

“So good…” you whispered again.

He slid a finger inside you to the knuckle and crooked it while he continued to circle and lap at your clit, and a jolt of fire shot through you.

“Oh god, oh god,” you chanted, gasping, heat coiling inside you as you lifted your hips up and he continued to pleasure you over and over until you thought you might shake apart with how good it felt.

“Come for me,” he murmured pressing his finger harder inside you, and a second later you came with a cry, clenching around him as he eased you through your orgasm.

When you finally lay still, you cracked an eye open and found him kneeling up between your legs, still with his finger inside you and his thumb just below your clit, staring at you with a look of absolute wonder on his face.

“Ghul?” you asked, voice hoarse.

“Mmm,” he smiled, withdrawing from you and bringing his finger to his mouth to taste you.

As good as his fingers and tongue had been, you’d have been lying if you’d said you hadn’t wanted something else inside you. “I want you…”

He smiled. “I w-wanted to w-wait, you know…” he said bashfully, looking away, his ponytail falling forwards over his shoulder.

“What do you mean?”

“I’m… I’m k-kind of traditional…”

“Oh,” you said, trying not to show your disappointment. If that was his choice, then of course you’d respect that. Orcish culture - despite having been friends with him for years - was still a bit of a mystery to you. Different clans had different views on relationships and when it was appropriate to do certain things. His, it seemed, was more conservative.

He looked down at you, still desperately hard, and offered you a lopsided, shy smile. “Does it bother you?”

“I’ll wait,” you said. “I waited this long after all…” you added with a grin. “Does that mean you don’t want anything yet then?”

He flopped down beside you and lay on his back. “No,” he rasped. “No, it doesn’t…”

“Then let me take care of you…” you said, shuffling so that you could tug his boxers off.

His cock sprang free, hard, flushed and weeping already.

“Look at you,” you murmured and he keened audibly under your praise.

It didn't take very long for him to spill into your hand while your other hand caressed his balls. He came with a harsh, deep bellow, one arm flung up over his eyes, his other grabbing your thigh in a bruisingly tight grip as he emptied himself all over his abs.

When his cock finally finished drooling the last of his come onto his dark green skin, he opened his eyes and reached vaguely for a tissue from the table beside the bed.

It was another year before your relationship changed again.

He’d taken you on a long weekend before, but this time his stutter was so appalling it rendered him almost speechless over dinner and he asked you silently to order for him with a pleading look in his eyes.

Concerned, you frowned but nodded, and once you’d given the waiter your choices, you turned back to him and saw how pale he was. “Ghul, are you alright?”

He nodded and tried to smile but it fell short. His hand kept going back to his jacket pocket.

“What’s up?”

He shook his head again. Nothing. Don’t worry, his expression said as he tried to reassure you.

The meal was beautiful, but you couldn’t help worrying about him. He couldn’t get a word out and his frustration was obvious. He’d had bad days like this before, but still, there was usually a reason that you knew of, like an impending assessment at work or some emotional issue, often with his rather full-on family.

As the waiter cleared away the plates from your main course, Ghul took a deep, shuddering breath and reached again for his jacket pocket. This time, he drew something out, though his huge hand hid it from view.

Your throat went dry all the same.

He slid a card across the table towards you and you picked up the envelope, alive with curiosity.

On the front in his terrible handwriting was written your name, and you opened it, drawing out a simple card that had a bunch of roses drawn in ink on the front. Glancing up at him, Ghul looked like he might pass out any second, but you forced your attention back to the card.

‘I knew my speech would go to shit today,’ was written inside the card. ‘I’m so sorry. I wanted to ask you this myself, but I knew I’d have to write it down. I hope you don’t mind. You have been the light of my life for as long as I can remember, and I want nothing more than to stay by your side for the rest of my days… Now… look up at me… x’

And as you did, you saw him opening a small, wooden box. Inside was a ring with a gem set in the centre, and your heart leapt wildly.

His expression said what the card had not. Will you marry me?

“Yes!” you gasped, tears filling your eyes. “Yes, yes, I’ll marry you!”

Orctober prompts won't (hopefully!) be as cheesy as this one turned out, but I hope you enjoyed it nevertheless!

I’m stuck between “it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die” and “I’m lactose intolerant and can’t handle this much cheese.” 😅💕
