You’d heard of the fearsome chimera of legend - the lions with an additional goat’s head and a snake’s head tail - but you never imagined for a moment that you would ever meet one. 

And yet here you were, as special adviser to the king and his extraordinary general, halfway through their epic campaign, trying not to be intimidated by the twin intellects of the chimera general. 

The black leonine head was responsible for the battle plans and logistics, while the caprine head had more of a talent for overcoming the unexpected; despite being two personalities, they insisted that they were one being, male, and you quickly learnt that they were not only brilliant, but charming too. 

As you made a polite alteration to his plan one afternoon, you heard a deep, sonorous purring and so, with a frown, you asked a little archly, “You approve, I take it?”

With a silent nod, his dark eyes glittering in that coal-black face, he continued to purr deeply, until he murmured, “The king and I are lucky to have you here, and, if I might be so bold, I have very much enjoyed getting to know you - I hope to get to know you better in the future too.”
