Tiger shark merman - Fáinn (Patreon)

Meet Fáinn! He's a bit of a loner (as most of his kind tend to be), who used to roam the ocean until he came to Starfall Bay and was tentatively accepted by the locals there, so long as he promised not to hunt local sapient life forms (like selkies and other merfolk etc.). 

Fáinn now works part time for the coastguard because of his strength and endurance, and is frequently called upon during storms to help with rescues. He also helps to keep the bay safe during the summer when the surfers are out by keeping actual sharks away. That's how he got some of his (many) scars. 

He's biromantic, demisexual, wary of humans (lots of humans hunt merfolk in other parts of the world and he's not had the best experience with that) but he can be extremely loyal once you've earned his trust.  Fáinn doesn't tend to talk a lot, partly because he has a bit of a stutter, and partly because he's just... not very verbal. People often assume he's standoffish or moody because of it, but he's actually kind of shy and awkward, not having socialised a lot before coming to Starfall. 

Hope you're looking forward to meeting him properly very soon... I have to say that while I'm still very shy about posting my doodles, I'm pleased with the background of this one at least, and it definitely helps me when I'm writing. I hope you don't mind the addition of the odd doodle on here!
