Hello! Here's a mid-month article specifically about our effort to port SBCL and Trial to the Nintendo Switch. It goes into quite a bit of technical detail, so if you're interested in that, do give it a look! There's also a brand new video recording of some Trial stuff running on actual hardware, so that's exciting!

Oh, and, if you have an account on Hackernews, please look for this post and upvote it there. Getting more eyes on it would be great, thanks a lot!

Porting SBCL to the Nintendo Switch

For the past two years Charles Zhang and I have been working on getting my game engine, Trial, running on the Nintendo Switch. The primary challenge in doing this is porting the underlying Common Lisp runtime to work on this platform.

I thought you'd want to know that it took more than 3 attempts to actually get the full page to load. First it was just blank, then it loaded the part of the page (a couple paragraphs past the video), then it finally loaded. Now it won't load at all (blank again).

That's very strange. Not sure what to do about that, to be honest, it loads fine on my end, even when I hard-refresh.

One thing to keep in mind, even if someone tells you they signed the NDA, that doesn’t mean they actually did.You probably wouldn’t be fooled by that, but I wanted to point it out explicitly just in case.

Oh, yeah, there's ways to ensure that the NDA was signed well enough. For instance, SDL's fork for the switch is a private repo that you can only gain access to through the internal developer forums.
