I listened to FM again (Hi Ethel!) and my fave bit is the stacking of the crates/boxes and I'm thinking how does Hank know what to say and when to say it?! Your dialogue is impeccable. 🫡 Thank you for taking us into your process and for going the extra mile in getting the right soundscape. (But do take care always and don't go chasing actual storms and stuff! 😂) ❤️

Watching foley artists at work for the visual screen has always been surprising as to what is used to make the imitated sound vs how us mere humans hear the sound in real life. But those people were working in little rooms and not (necessarily) on location. I admire the dedication to getting things right. (hope this makes sense from a tired brain) Part of me wonders if, as an exercise, a sound/situation could be recorded without knowing entirely what it is, and then building an improv story from that, in the same way the Hank's Guitars jam session of those videos are done.

For some reason, I figured it was a good a idea to listen to this RIGHT after waking up early in the morning. Weeeell … I had to keep rewinding because I kept falling back asleep. 😂🙈 But I did love this episode of The Audio Files! I love hearing about the behind the scenes of your audios – be it how the story took shape or how the sound effects were created. I’m always so immersed in your audios that I rarely stop to think about all of that stuff. And that’s probably the point: if it seems seamless, it was done right. Thank you for taking us with you on the journey of SFX creation in this episode!

I do often wonder “how did Hank get this specific sound?” 🤔 Kudos to you for layering and doing everything “old school” style. I can layer sounds and all that but digitally. I totally get what you mean about sounds having to be just right. I’m a writer and I used to make short videos and it was hard to find sounds that crescendo at just the right point or emit the emotion I’m trying to get across at just the right moment. What you do truly is an art and it’s evident how much we don’t just love listening to it but you love making it. You put a lot of passion into your work *pun intended* 😂 Thank you for putting so much thought into every single detail ☺️

Back in college I did media studies and one of the classes was all about audio. We had to create our own story with audio/ audio sound effects. The college had a website where it was all free sounds available for us but sometimes the right sound wasnt on their database. So we were given this cassette like recording device. I needed 1 sound of a squeaky door, but it had to be a particular squeak. The only place in the college that had this scary squeak sound was the girls toilets. One of the cubicles had a particularly squeaky door. So me and my classmate spent like over 30 mins in this toilet trying to record this sound. Not just the correct squeak but we had to wait for other pupils to leave the bathroom and wait for doors, hand dryers and other noises to end before we could record this door😂
