I've always been fascinated by this song. A chilling tale of a shipwreck told by a great Canadian songwriter.......

SUCH a classic Canadian song. My favourite of his is If You Could Read My Mind, but this one is a close second.

I love songs that tell a story. So sad that all 29 crew were lost , at least not forgotten with this song 💔. I'm lying awake as usual and went down a rabbit hole, the freighter was only 100 feet shorter than The Titanic! That must have been a momentous storm.

Relearned about this song a few years ago watching a documentary on the Great Lakes shipwrecks. Heart wrenching to hear the backstory of the ship and crew's final voyagé, that it didn't have to happen.

Great classic Canadian song and Lightfoot is a damn Canadian legend. I’ve been listening to his albums straight through from first to last. And I gotta say, he’s got some hidden gems in there!

Us from Minnesota love this song too! Moved to Arizona 10years ago though lol

I was just talking to my mom about this song yesterday! This is one of her favorites. 🥰

Native Minnesotan here, love this song! Lake Superior never gives up her dead… because it’s so cold! The cold temperature prevents bacteria from breaking down the bodies, therefore they don’t float to the top. They become preserved in a soap-like white consistency, perfectly preserved in their permanent resting place.

Hello from one more Minnesotan! This song was a hit in my childhood and is one of my favorites.

Have always loved this song. You get the story of a maritime disaster; weather reports; and the best line is given to the ship’s cook. 🧑‍🍳 ❤️
