for an alternative app to do the hangouts you could use google meets, zoom, or teams and just put like a post on here with the link to join? there’s not very many apps similar to discord. i appreciate you for keeping everyone’s safety in mind.

Thanks for the concern, much appreciated! I moderate several Discord servers and many of my members are also unhappy about the potential complications, with lots of talk going around about looking for alternatives. If I see any promising leads, I can pass them along. I've personally got my fingers crossed that the "intuitive algorithm" they're using to pre-emptively determine if you're an adult will give an automatic pass to anyone in a Patreon connected server... but I'm also not holding my breath.

It looks like it’s already rolling out because my discord is showing the channels 18+ unavailable on my end. 😐 I didn’t get the notification from discord themselves that this was occurring till this morning and it seems we were all given the same time frame, but that they are seemingly making the roll out a lot sooner than expected. We most certainly appreciate your concerns here! I know I won’t be giving them access to that info! And thank you for such a fast response to this! ❤️

Well, I'm far from knowledgeable when it comes to hosting platforms and techy stuff. I am a bare bones computer user. However, I did a quick little Google search to see what other people are saying (because of this, mainly). I know nothing of what these programs are capable of voice wise/channel or forum wise or their capacity or cost. But I'll throw some names out there that I saw being mentioned to varying degrees: Stoat (formerly Revolt), Steam (which I believe has voice channels), Matrix, Mattermost, Signal, Zulip, Bettermode, and Element. I'm sure there are more, but looking made my head spin. I already have to do face verification for work and I'm not happy about it, although I do access sensitive info so it is understandable. We've already had upgrades to protect Personally Identifiable Information for what we deal in. In today's age there is a LOT floating around that is way too easy to access or hack. I know I've been a bit MIA on Discord, and it isn't for lack of wanting to be there. I truly enjoy the community and the atmosphere. You really have made the best corner on the internet. ♥️

I’m quite new here and have never used discord. I use Teams for work meetings. A private link to join is sent out. It is my understanding that the meeting organiser invites the participants into the meeting, and can also chuck people out if need be.

Thank you for taking our privacy (and yours) seriously, Hank! I’m sure we will find a solution if it comes to the point where Discord is no longer a viable platform for us to hang out without giving up our personal data.

Just when one thing seemed stable in this crazy world...sigh. As to different platform, another patreon group I support just moved over to Raptive but I have not had a moment to check out and am not sure if it supports hangouts. A google search suggests: Guilded, Element or Telegram. Again, haven't tried these platforms personally but seem the most similar to discord.

Truly appreciate how much you prioritize your community's privacy and safety above all else 🫶 At this time, it's difficult to find a platform that can compete with the Discord's core features. They either have good chat or good voice, but not a combination of both. Willing to bet with Discord rolling out these updates, though, at least a handful of platforms will rise to the challenge to fill that void. Wait and see does sound optimal.

I was just reading an article about it. It's tricky to protect minors and at the same time not to invade the privacy of people. I read about alternative to Discord but no other platform seems as powerful. They also mentionned that other platforms would also have to comply to verifying the age.

What a sad bit of news. Looks like it’s already gone into effect. This is why we can’t have nice things… 😒 I’m really sorry that you’re having to navigate this Hank. Ultimately, this affects your livelihood. You’ve spent almost ten years building your community. And I believe that your community is a small part of what sets you apart. Don’t get me wrong, your talents in acting, creating, & sound are the lion share of what sets you above the rest & the King 👑 at what you do. 😅 I don’t mean to discredit that. (Hopefully you know me better & how strongly I feel about supporting you as a creator 🩷) But… your community… that is SUCH a unique treasure. Many of us found lifelong friends that help carry us through the hardest of times. Hank’s house held me together when my entire world fell apart after I lost my soul dog & my Dad two months apart from each other. I shattered & Hank’s house was there for me as I started the painstaking process of trying to put myself back together. Being vulnerable & very honest, Hank’s house is a a very big part of why I was able to just celebrate four years sober. (Yes… even though I had lost the two most important people in my life during that time) Hank’s house saved me, gave me a home. A place where I could open up & figure out who I was & then blossom into myself in the midst of one of life’s storms. “Flowers bloom even in the pouring rain.” - Hwasa from Mamamoo And I most certainly don’t share this sentiment in sorrow or to make any one feel bad or try to alter your decision. (As if I could) I just think that if this is the end, it’s important to me that you understand how positively you have impacted people. I am very confident that I am not alone. Hank’s House saved my life, probably both literally and figuratively. I did a quick poke around other platforms and thought about a few that I’m familiar with. I would suggest looking at the App Whop. It looks very similar, but I’m not familiar with it & wouldn’t be able to tell if it would present the same or different problems. Till a time when clarity comes, let’s wait & see. And officially & truly… Discord in a blender! Such a bully. 😒 As ever & always… thank you, Hank. 🩷

As much as I don’t enjoy what’s going on with Discord at the moment……..Thank you for putting our (& your) safety first. I’m sad to hear that this is all going down. Sarah put it better than I can say with the community you’ve built Hank. This community has been the best thing that has happened to me. I’m forever grateful for stumbling upon your above & beyond audios on YouTube a few years & being apart of an amazing group. Y’all have been an absolute blessing.
