Got an hour to kill? This is your video!

I've been wanting to resurrect my old vintage tube powered radios and this was the first one to hit the bench. SPOILER ALERT!!!! It ultimately didn't work because it needs to be recapped (new capacitors). Over the years they dry out and need to be replaced otherwise you run the very real risk of your radio going thermonuclear.

I bailed because I could hear the dreaded "death hum" but it's a fascinating fact filled journey taking it apart, cleaning it up and seeing if it wants to live and I thought I'd bring you along for the ride.

Dunkel & Hell is your Bass & Treble. Thought all those years studying German were wasted, but I guess not 😏 Sorry it didn’t fire up for you. You definitely possess great patience & perservance. Keep us posted. Would be great to see it brought back to life. I personally found it intriguing, much better than the football this evening 😜

Aww man, it would have been incredible if it would have started up. You put a lot of work into it, so hopefully your guy can give it the finishing touches to make it work🙏🏽❤️

The best part is seeing the guts inside and hearing your enthusiasm, quite infectious! I love understanding how mechanical and electrical systems work and misbehave, so looking forward to the follow up video. The warm-up reminded me of 'Fire and Ice' when Fire turns on the machine with tubes. Was that supposed to be a radio or record player? Here's hoping the next radio tune up goes a bit smoother! :D

I'm guessing quite a few of them might be the same. Those capacitors only last so long but that'll just keep my tube guy busy 🤣 and in Fire And Ice that was supposed to be an old 40's tube radio.

Thanks for keeping me company on my over-5-hour train ride that started with my actual connection getting cancelled last minute. 😓 Loved the Elwood cameo, too. 😍 As for all those German words, allow me … 😉 Jubilate: pronounced “yooh-bee-lah-te” (the vowel in the last syllable pronounced similarly to the one in “heir”) = Latin for “be joyful/rejoice” Dunkel: pronounced perfectly = dark Hell: pronounced like “(heaven and) hell” = bright Lang: pronounced perfectly = long [Couldn’t read the inscription on the other buttons]

Thank you Anita 😊 I'm out of practice with my bad German 🤣

I’m always happy to help out. 😉

I like the wooden surround, looks really nice. Interesting to see the inner workings too. Made doing the ironing much more tolerable 😄 And using ketchup to clean brass coatings is a new one on me 👀😅

HankMillerAudios

Me too!! I'll have to try it. Worse comes to worse I can always put it on my burger 🍔 🤣

This was great to geek out to and I'm glad you stopped at the bad hum! 💥 Let the professionals take the risk. I can't wait to hear that old radio sound when you get it working. Very nostalgic and I can replay this for some sleep ASMR as recommended by Elwood 😸😂 ❤️🐝

This is definitely a video that could put someone to sleep 🤣
