Years after a section of a research facility was permanently sealed, a scientist is sent into the abandoned wing to sort through whatever was left behind. The laboratory had been shut down after a string of lawsuits, failed experiments, and accusations of reckless testing, and most of the surviving records had simply been boxed up and forgotten. Buried among dusty files and outdated equipment, he discovers a collection of old VHS tapes. One of them immediately catches his attention. Written across the label in faded marker are the words BOV-LAC 27 — HUMAN EXPOSURE.

Curious, he places the tape into an old VCR and watches the screen come to life. The footage is centered around a 21-year-old college student named Crystal, whose connection to the experiment began with her mother. Crystal's mother had worked at the facility before it was shut down and had secretly taken home a bottle of BOV-LAC 27, an experimental drug originally designed to dramatically increase milk production in dairy cattle. She had taken it out of desperation and curiosity, but after bringing it home, fear began to outweigh temptation. While speaking privately with a friend over the phone, she admitted what she had done, why she had taken it, and that she had become too nervous to actually use it. She decided she would return the bottle before anyone discovered it was missing.

Crystal overheard enough of the conversation to understand exactly what the drug was supposed to do. Instead of warning her mother or leaving it alone, she became fascinated by it. Before her mother could return the bottle, Crystal found it and took the entire dose herself. The mistake was discovered quickly, and the company was immediately contacted. Because Crystal's mother had removed an experimental compound from the facility without authorization, her job was at risk. The company eventually agreed to let her keep her position under one condition: Crystal would document everything that happened to her so the researchers could gather the human data they had never intended to obtain.

What began as a reluctant series of personal recordings slowly became something much stranger. Crystal initially treated the situation like an accident she wanted to understand and survive. Every new change made her more nervous, and for a while she seemed unsure whether she had ruined her life with one impulsive decision. But as the days passed and the effects of BOV-LAC 27 continued, her fear gradually turned into curiosity. She began paying closer attention to herself, comparing one recording to another, and becoming increasingly fascinated by just how far the experiment might go. The videos stopped feeling like mandatory reports and started feeling more like Crystal's own private diary.

The company continued requesting updates, measurements, and recordings, partly because Crystal had become something they had never had before: a living human case study for a drug that had only been intended for animals. The more unusual her condition became, the more valuable the footage became to the researchers. Crystal's attitude changed with it. What had embarrassed and frightened her at first began to make her feel unique. She became more confident, more playful, and increasingly comfortable with the attention surrounding her case. By the later recordings, it was clear that she was no longer simply tolerating the consequences of BOV-LAC 27. She had started to genuinely enjoy what it had done to her.

Then, during one of the final updates, the situation suddenly becomes far more extreme. A growth spurt begins while Crystal is recording, escalating much faster than anything the company had documented before. For the first time in a long while, the confidence she had built is replaced by genuine uncertainty as the experiment appears to exceed even the company's expectations. The footage becomes one of the most important pieces of evidence in the entire BOV-LAC 27 archive, proving that the drug's effects were not only still active but capable of surging unpredictably long after Crystal first took it.

The final recording is made after the incident has settled down, and Crystal's attitude has changed once again. Rather than regretting what happened, she has completely embraced it. The company, realizing how recognizable she has become within the project, now wants to hire her as the official face and mascot of BOV-LAC 27. Even stranger, word of her case has apparently traveled outside the company, and a wealthy billionaire has offered to take her to Greece. Crystal began the experiment frightened, embarrassed, and unsure whether she had made the worst mistake of her life. By the end, she sees the transformation completely differently. What once terrified her has become the thing that makes her feel special, and instead of wishing she could go back to normal, Crystal admits that she loves what she has become.
