Hello,

It's time for a behind the scenes bonus episode, and for that we need your questions. Do you want to know anything about the writing, performance, or production of Night Vale? About our live tours? How we develop and decide on our merch? Just anything about writing or podcasts or media in general? Ask it here and we'll try to get to as many of the questions as we can. Thanks!

Uura Pohjola

Are there anything you regret doing/not doing with Night Vale in the past?

Joseph Robertson

Two here. UK Tour Dates soon? Apart from a name from the Patreon tier, how do you decide when a name of a character feels right? Especially someone like Cecil who didn’t have a name at the start of for an intern who might become more of a main stay, or may only last an episode.

nami_what

How did you figure out the voice for your characters? Not just the voice actors, but the way the characters express themselves

Cheris Lifford

Do you ever use the welcome to night vale fan wiki to remember details from the show as you’re writing new episodes?

Sandra H

Two questions: I'm curious about the process of choosing cities to visit for the live shows. Second, how do you write the script so that you can fit in guest appearances in a way that fits with the story, but doesn't change the story?

JC

For each merch we do see, how many do we not see?

Anne Flore Nachon

Hi! I was wondering where and how do you get your feedback about each episode ? Also what's your favourite way of getting references / info about new topics you talk about in WTNV ?

Lynore Avery

Is the role-playing game still in development?

Ayra Tanner

for the in-universe ad reads, do companies contact you about getting an ad read and not realize what they're getting into? or do you come up with the 'ads' and then decide what real-world company they should line up with?

Arline Babka

Night Vale is populated with so many characters to explore, what makes you decide to introduce new ones (as in Luca Albescu, who I immediately fell in love with)?

Julia Diem

Back during the pandemic, you guys put on several livestream versions of episodes and live shows. Do those still exist on someone's hard drive somewhere? If so, would there ever be a chance of seeing those again? I would pay you any amount of money to get to watch the ones I missed.

Christopher Dougherty

You have both talked about how Nightvale is huge and has allowed you both to do wonderful and exciting things. But, what do you miss from the time before Nightvale? Is there anything that you wish you could have held on to?

mguin

Your earliest episodes branched out into more and more vocal talent but some characters live only thru narrative description. How do you determine when a character will be fully voiced separate from the narrative? Did any of those transitions surprise you?

Pascal Beau Tower

Is there perhaps another WTNV novel in the works, and what has their publishing experience been like/how has it varied between books?

Ken Sullivan

Is there a fun creature or cryptid you've wanted to add to a story, but couldn't find the right fit?

Danica N

If money and physics were not a barrier, what would be your dream merch creation that you'd bring into existence?

Molly G-Mc

You‘ve talked in the past about wanting to experiment with different genres for various episodes (e.g., the heist episode, ghost stories, mystery, etc). What genres haven’t you done yet, but would be excited to try in the future? May I suggest a Bollywood-style musical?

Jude

where is kevin

SavvyC

On the most recent tour, what was your personal best shenanigan to witness, commit, and/or experience?

Joy Ramirez

What does the soundscaping look like for an average episode of nightvale and who among y’all mixes the audio

Joy Ramirez

also what kind of equipment is used to run the podcast (mics, sound board, software, ect)

cole k

Before COVID, you announced that Cecil will no longer be touring with Nightvale live shows. This is never mentioned again, and as far as I know, Cecil’s live show spirit is alive and well. What happened for you to make this announcement? What changed?

I've definitely been curious about the same thing. Obviously it would have been a really personal decision that Cecil had to make and so I've struggled with how to ask this as sensitively as possible without prying. But I agree, I'd also love an update on what the future of live shows might look like as far as we can foresee

Astrid Gunn

You've talked before about the woes of earlier/longtime characters sharing first names with their voice actors. Was there an intentional reason at the time behind naming Carlos something other than Dylan?

Imani Khandker

About how long does it take to write each episode and live show?

cole k
>>117009413

Same. I don’t want to seem insensitive whatsoever, and if this is an inappropriate question, I hope Joseph/Jeffrey just skip over me and pretend I didn’t comment anything lol. I respect their privacy, but it’s been burning in the back of my head; I wonder why didn’t they remove that clip from the show’s episodes

Victoria miles

Will there be a meet and greet after the at the November show?

welcometonightvale

I can just answer this here because it's not a very interesting story. In 2019, Cecil thought he was ready to be done touring for a while. And by the time we were able to start touring again 3 years later, he had changed his mind.

cole k

Totally makes sense, thank you! I didn’t think it was anything crazy. I’m happy to still have Cecil on the touring schedule (but no pressure bae we support u no matter what <3)

we don't do formal meet and greets. cast members might or might not come out, but given that covid can instantly cancel an entire tour, it is unlikely they'll be able to do so.

Astrid Gunn

If Huntokar takes the form of a deer, does that mean that on some level, she has a real estate agent burrowed inside of her? 😂

Riley

How many characters in nv are named after patreons?

Anonymous

Will you all be doing any live shows online like you did during Covid ? Was fun to watch

Jessica Haworth

I would love to know about your process for merch. I know you only work with select artists. Is there a way to become someone you work with?

Maeve Hightower

I just want to know if there will be more of Kevin at some point, or if him reaching the point Cecil was at in the beginning is meant to tell us that his life will slowly get better and we don't have to worry about him anymore
