on "Severance," "The Nine" refers to Kier Eagan's Nine Core Principles that are foundational to Lumon Industries and its employees. These principles, intended to unify and inspire, guide personal growth and work ethic within the company. The nine are: Vision, Verve, Wit, Cheer, Humility, Benevolence, Nimbleness, Probity, and Wiles. Here's a more detailed look: Vision: Having a clear and focused perspective. Verve: Showing energy and enthusiasm. Wit: Being clever and insightful. Cheer: Maintaining a positive and optimistic attitude. Humility: Recognizing one's limitations and place. Benevolence: Demonstrating kindness and goodwill. Nimbleness: Being adaptable and quick to respond. Probity: Exhibiting honesty and integrity. Wiles: Employing cunning and strategic thinking.

Yes, Cobel invented severance, that's why after the altercation she had outside Lumon with Helena and that creepy body guard standing behind her and all that talk and intimidation that Helena was saying to Cobel, Cobel thought it would be best to just return to her home town and grab the proof that SHE invented severance and therefore NOBODY should be degrading her since the chip wouldn't have existed if it weren't for her, and Jame Eagan took all the credit for it.

Jane Alexander, who plays Aunt Sissy is an Emmy Award winning actress and Academy Award nominee as well. She is amazing in this role and just got another Emmy nomination for it. This episode was filmed in Newfoundland an island in Canada. Now we know why Cobel insisted on running the severed floor. Love your t-shirt Nikki!!

When I first watched this I felt so let down from the high coming off episode 7, but on rewatch, this episode is absolutely necessary for the rest of the season to make sense.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Jerry Stahl, but he wrote for "ALF" while in the midst of a deep heroin addiction and was played by Ben Stiller in the movie "Permanent Midnight", which is based off his memoir of the same name. He's the guy in the diner purchasing Ether from Hampton. It's not important to the story, but it's still a fun little bit of info.

poor Harmony. I felt her pain when she was missing her mom. my wife passed not too long ago and it made me think of my kids and it hit hard. the town of Salt Lick is like a lot of cities that corporations exploit and then abandon. The country is full of them. I think Harmony's mom Charlotte was being taken care of by her sister "Sissy" a very devout Keir cultist and follower of the 9 virtues. Just like Irv.

Salt's Neck* Not that that is a less weird name than Salt Lick! 😉
