I enjoyed vol 2! I agree it has some issues and season 5 hasn’t been my favorite season but I’m still really invested and if the series finale pays off with a great ending it will raise my rank of the season.

No this was not the plan from season 1. The duffer brothers have said they didn’t even know if they would have another season after season 1. All these criticisms are actually fair. Everybody else on the internet acting like season 5 is the worst thing ever is crazy. This season has some of super cool emotional stuff. Episode 4 was PEAK as well as the ending to episode 5 with will controlling vecna. Dustin and Steve’s scene was awesome. Lucas and max scene was fantastic as well. I’m still so excited for the finale and fully believe they will nail it.

Thanks, I agree with most of your points, Steven. The Duffer Brothers were writing this since season 4 ended. They may have had a general idea of where it was going to go, but getting all the details in and the flow is something that has to be worked out. I think Kali may have something important i.e. either on Vecnas side or helping El. I am only saying that because the Duffer Brothers said she was essential to bring back. I have some criticisms, but I like this episode better now after the 2nd watch. I agree with you about the lack of urgency in the Max and Holly escaping from Vecna last episode. Seemed strange. I think the only one who truly knew about Will is Jonathan. He got what Will was saying to Mike when he was driving them somewhere in season 4. Maybe Dustin knew. Mike really didn't seem to catch on until he was told this episode. It was hard for people to come out in the 80s. I was in my early 20s in the mid 80s and a couple of my friends came out.

Agree there is some messiness but overall I’m happy with it, especially the character moments we’ve had this season. For me season 4 was the best, they nailed the storytelling in my opinion, I was so pleasantly surprised because I had started to lose interest during season 3 and I felt like it would just get worse every season. I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy season 5 because it couldn’t live up to S4, but I’m really enjoying it despite some things. I especially love Will this season, and Max as usual is awesome, I loved the scenes with her and Holly and I can’t wait to see them reunite in the real world (all things going well haha). 💛

I have faith in the Duffer brothers landing the ending. I think this season has been awesome. There are some moments that are a bit slow, but I believe it's needed because of what's coming. BTW...I believe this episode's theme was about truth. I believe Hopper (as well as Henry) has a HUGE secret. I have an idea on what that might be, and it has to do with November 6th, 1959. I can't wait for New Years Eve, but a little sad that it's ending.

agree Steven, some of it seems a bit filler. yeah Will coming out removes a huge tool Vecna was using against him. So glad he empowered himself by removing that chain holding him back. I kinda get a sense he might almost pull a Vecna and draw power from his friends too. But they will willingly give him their energy to use and supercharge him.

I don't think The Duffer Brothers even came up with the idea of Vecna till season 4 where they said they wanted to create a physical humanlike villain that could talk from The Upside Down like Freddy. Pretty sure they've been winging it and weaving stuff together to make it all make sense.
