I remember watching this in theaters, it's an amazing film, very underrated, I'm glad people who haven't seen it are now watching it because of Welcome to Derry.

I think the perception of sequels of classic movies made this movie go under the radar and because many years it’s been since the original … also people don’t know that Doctor Sleep is a Stephen king novel lol

Mister Lou

I am so glad you guys liked this movie! Please check out another forgotten about classic, that gets over shadowed by Stand By Me and IT called Dreamcatcher

This is definitely an underrated movie. I definitely think they should have kept the box lore in Doctor Sleep and lefted it to a minimum in the Show.

This movie is a borderline masterpiece in my opinion. So well done. And this isn't a "Hollywood" sequel. This is very faithful to Stephen Kings "Doctor Sleep" sequel Novel. And great casting. Ewan, Ferguson & Curran are all incredible.

Nice Rebecca Ferguson. Haven't seen this one yet but it looks interesting. Love her in Dune and Silo. But that last film about the end of the world sucked. (wasn't her fault) Edit. Enjoyed this way more that I thought I would. Thanks.

Steven - To answer your post reaction question...IMO(Hot take)...yes this was a better adapted screenplay to Stephen Kings novel "Doctor sleep". It's well known that Kubrick veered quite a bit away from the original novel of "The Shining' in 1980. However, what stole the show in 1980 was the never-to-ever-be-matched performance of Jack Nicholson. I do believe this movie was executed to perfection. Mike Flanigan is a master.

A cool movie, if you haven't seen, 'Push', starring Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning.

Theres no exact age that King has confirmed for Rose, but Rebecca Ferguson places her around 700 years old. And yeah calling them vampires is accurate, Psychic Vampires to be more specific, instead of blood they feed off the psychic energy/life force of people with The Shining.

I saw the Shining in the mid 80s I believe. I was a teejnager. I never heard of this movie until I saw your post. I enjoyed it. One thing about cats, I don't know how scientific this is, but there are accounts of cats lying on people when they are close to dying. They are there to provide comfort. I took care of this lady who had dementia, and my friends cats (she was her mother) would lie on her a lot. They gravitated to her. I think they knew she needed comfort. My cat who passed a way two years ago was always with me when I wasn't feeling well. She would even wake me if I had low blood sugar and wouldn't let me go back to sleep until I checked and ate and got myself back to normal. I love animals. I know dogs can do similar things.

This was filmed in Georgia sans the hotel stuff. You guys were asking about the location. That's why the town has a stranger things vibe.

I finally got to finish this with you guys. I loved this movie. Maybe even more than the original -sorry Nikki :-) Like I said before - in the Shining reaction, Stephen King is very much one of my favorite authors, but his novels are a hit or miss. But even more so, the movies that are made from them. Having just finished Stranger Things, I would very much like the Duffer Brothers to take on one of Stephen Kings novels. Preferably, one of his newest - Fairy Tale. That could be fun, if done right.

It's probably because the book Dr Sleep was published 36yrs later after the book and the movie, thus not as popular

I may or may not have re-watched this reaction for the umpteenth(fil-in-the-blank) time. This movie was incredible and very true to Stephen King's sequel novel which had more depth simply because of the length of his story and hard to make a movie less than 2 1/2 hrs with everything in his incredible book. But this movie is a masterpiece and did get great reviews. It unfortunately did not have "commercial" (hate that word) success for a handful of reasons. Which was horrible because I truly believe Mike Flannigan would've done an incredible third movie if given the chance. Even Rose "The Hat" said when walking up the stairs.."Oh, I'm far from the last one. I'm just the prettiest". Maybe it's because S.K. hasn't written a third chapter.....yet. However, it is very well regarded by any true Stephen King fans and anyone who says otherwise....you're still cool.
