about the guard not talking with darlene about the badge - you can see them talking through the window, just before elliot enters the building

Everyone has a theory about what happened to Tyrell, if you recall when he collapsed at the end of the last episode there was a look of peace and wonder on his face as there was that loud howl and a blue glowing light, kind of like a blue computer screen. At the beginning of the same episode when they were walking and they heard the howling Tyrell said its the sound of death. So it's safe to assume he's dead based on that hint. Just as you said, nothing happens by mistake on this show, everything has meaning.

This is an awesome episode. I love the action combined with the hacking and how the people are starting to converge. I liked seeing Darlene and Elliott working together. At the end of his marathon, when he got in the car and held her hand, I could tell he had changed after he realized he treated Darlene like shit. Darlene is one of my favorite characters. She is a bit edgy, but extremely smart and forgiving. She also is empathetic when Elliott loses it at times or when he disappears. Janice freaks me out. She is so dangerous.

Yeah, the whole season is a massive Sam Esmail directing flex - he actually steps it up a bunch. Even though I do like this episode a lot, it does contain one of the most pointlessly egregious technical errors in the whole series - in that DC room, those servers would be *incredibly* loud, we're required to wear ear defenders, those 40mm server fans sound like jet engines and when you have thousands of them the sound pressure and frequency is super dangerous for hearing. But the reason it bothers me is that it would have actually fitted the story better for there to be realism there, not worse.. Another reason I like this episode is it shows probably more than any other the shots that Sam Esmail ripped directly from his work on Homecoming, particularly that descending staircase shot, it's a 1:1 copy of the one he used there.

I love this episode. Top 5 of the show for me. High concept and perfectly executed. I remember watching it for the first time baked out of my mind and clocking a few minutes in that nobody was talking and it blowing my mind.
