Any chance you guys check out Inkbound? It’s a roguelike developed by the monster train crew. Just hit 1.0 this week. Seems like it should be right up your alley.

Xrthrx

Thanks guys, can't wait to listen! 😁

Monty

Children of the Sun sounds like a warm game to me

BucklingSwashes

But what if... I were to play cool games and disguise it as AA indies? Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh-hoh, delightfully devilish, Seymour.

Joe Moore

I'm realizing now that both Triple Click and The Resties released this Thursday and I think it's only fair for Plante and Russ to battle Maddy Jason and Kirk for Thursday podcasting supremacy. The Resties are starting a lot of beef over here

Sarah

felvidek as the zine version of pentiment is such a great description

Joel Castelli

God it's nice to get that Besties fix. Right into my controller cord shaped veins, thank you.

Jett Ricks

Y’all should check out Minishoot Adventures. Great Zelda-like twinstick shooter that clocks in right around 10-15 hours. I had a helluva time playing through it recently and I think it’s largely gone under the radar. Seems right up Justin’s alley probably.

Prodigalphreak

Y’all remember Messiah? What ever happened with that game?

Aaron White

Oh man, I have so many game and movie related Displate posters. Love them. That Nier one is nice. Big fan of minimalist art style.

amesville

That poster is so good

Sweet Wizzle

Love the games represented here! These sorts of episodes get me so pumped. Small correction: INDIKA's coming out in May, not June, at least according to the Steam and PSN listings. Stoked for it! Edit: I am a Snufkin enjoyer. Moomin was a huge part of my childhood. It's (Swedish-speaking) Finnish in origin, but the popular animation was made in Japan, where it also thrives. Snufkin is just the sweetest anarchist.

David Miller

I'm still not totally convinced this game was real, but the 2002 game PK: Out of the Shadows from Ubi Soft starring a bemasked, becaped Donald Duck as Paperinik/"PK"/"Duck Avenger" battling the Evron Empire genuinely seems like a Bob Iger fever dream

Kirsty

Honestly surprised I made it to the comments before a great flood of Finnish people complaining at the Moomins being described as seeming ‘very French’

michaelsoftexcel

glad you gave my felvidek suggestion a chance, had to sub to hear what you thought

Joshua Whitmore-lyons

Felvidek sounds ace, but the story outline sounds EXACTLY like disco elysium, like exactly the same. If you liked felvidek you have to give DE another go Plante !!

The Joanker

Geeking out over Plante referencing Beirut

Chasbene

I had to Google "shmup games", it's short for "shoot 'em ups" if anyone else has been wondering!

Re: Balatro discussion and it probably inspiring similar games, just wanted to say that the creator LocalThunk, in an AMA I think where he was asked if Slay the Spire inspired him, said that Luck be a Landlord was his biggest influence for making this game. Based on that comment I tried the demo and can say that while I see the similarities, especially on a meta game level, it’s a great example of good games inspiring very different-seeming offshoots. With any luck, we’ll get a totally different genre-defining title by someone just falling in love with this guy right now.

Ian Hickey

Since we're still talking about balatro, I have to again recommend Pine Tar Poker on mobile. It's like poker meets Yahtzee with eldritch theming and some roguelike elements. It's only $5 and has less than 500 downloads

Matthew Parsons

Hearing other people talk about Pentiment makes me feel like a very specific kind of huge sicko. I was literally late to a party because I got too invested in that game and lost track of time

Nathan

Have any of you tried Outcore? It's a really creative free game that I think y'all would get a kick out of.

Thomas Barker

Was reflecting on how much I love you dudes and how grateful I am for your podcast and getting to hang with the boys every week, so thanks for making this Patreon, and hope you’re having a killer day! Thanks for being a super positive part of my day and life and I love y’all (also I’m super high but y’all are some of my tightest homies and I gotta let you know how much I love and appreciate you)

I played Felvidek this week on your recommendation before listening to the episode and completed it in 7 hours. This is such a killer game with great art, soundtrack, and writing, always exciting to get new recommendations built by small teams that deserve every cent of my $10

Jesse Koechling

I actually played the demo of Snuffkin. My partner is really into Moomin so I figured she'd like to play (she preferred just watching me play) and my thoughts are identical to Chris'. What I played is super simple but it's also so charming with great visuals and music! I'd say it's at very least worth the demo if it sounds interesting!

Fun fact my family has been getting chicken soup tattooed on us (on purpose) in different languages. It's a running gag that my sister doesn't have strength and courage on her side and there's the added bonus of going into a restaurant and tapping your arm to order that 🤣
