KWEEEEEEEEEEER IKONIQUE

Scott Sandler

My mom first got the DVD in like, 2004, I was way too young to watch it, and thought who was on the cover was too freaky (derogatorily, but obviously being freaks was the point). By The Rocky Horror Glee Show in 2010, I had plenty of cultural osmosis but not the complete picture. I watched the 2016 TV remake but I don’t remember how much. I’d consider only recently having watched the whole thing front to back for the first time

Reel Reaction

The cultural influence is big with this one. Im so happy I finally watched it. I think I got the DVD around the same time as your mom haha! I need to rewatch that glee performance!!! *I see you shiver in antici....pation!!!* 👄

Man, the captions inserted “arrogant” between “a little bit” and “everywhere”, doing you dirty! I was like “How could she say that? It’s POSH!” in my head only to find that you didn’t say it at all

Also, Tim Curry iconiqueness aside, Brad is clearly PACKING, and I too, Frank, would GULP that piece down

Most of all tho Tim Curry is camp and silly and sexy and tragic all at the same time - much like this film. ‘Don’t dream it… Be it’ ‘I’m going home’

Reel Reaction

When they took his pants off!!! 👀 ahem he is blessed!! 🤣🤣

I now realise that I've never seen this film all the way through (until now). I remember everything in the first half but not the second. A friend of mine and me used to have a good laugh about the first song with the very dead-pan 'Janet' after each line. We found it so funny. I hope you weren't too disappointed to be "tricked" into watching another musical 🤣 I know they aren't your absolute top for films. You'll find with older musicals and films that it is very common to have the credits at the start, often as the overture is playing or showing opening scenery. A couple of films had end credits instead of at the start in the 50s and 60s but it wasn't until the mid to late 70s that credits became more common at the end of the film. It was partly because Hollywood wanted all the crew to be recognised and so added hundreds of extra names and extra minutes to the credits. They couldn't justify having 10+ minutes of text just scrolling before the film started.

Reel Reaction

The dead pan Janet was so good haha! And no i dont feel tricked given that i chose the movie 😅 and im pretty sure I knew it was a musical but was in the back of my head. The first few songs are always uncomfortable (the Janet's helped) its like slowly getting into the cold pool. When you're in it its good. Looking forward to watching Les Miserables!! With antici....pation!!!! 😂

I love that analogy with the musicals. I'm a huge fan so opening numbers are more exciting for me than awkward, but I totally understand that it's not for everyone. I was fortunate enough to see Les Mis on stage with Michael Ball and Alfie Boe. They were incredible. The film has more well-known actors than trained musical theatre actors so the songs aren't (imho) as spectacular but very much worth a watch. I've never watched the film or stage show and not cried so I'll have my tissues nearby for that one.

I forgot you aren't the biggest fan of musicals, but so happy you liked this. It's SOOO camp, and Tim Curry is unforgettable in this movie. 👽
