Reel Reaction: You mean "3x1." And I'm sure you saw my extensive AI post in the Comments on your last ep posting, giving all the fan theories!

P.S. :) You actually went back to watch 2x3 again! LOLOLOL Having watched these thirteen (?) episodes about a dozen times *at least,* instead of saying what many Sherlock superfans say--"Oh, the first two seasons are the greatest and the rest is mediocre at best"--I choose to believe that these are two separate shows--volumes, if you will--with two distinct purposes. So in my mind, this is the pilot of the second show, which is great in its own right! :) To answer your question: in my view, Sherlock had to make sure that the people *publicly* closest to him--his nuclear family of John and Mrs. Hudson--acted like he was dead so it didn't look suspicious. So, being Sherlock, he chose the sure way to make sure it looked legit! Oh, I forgot: MARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I will text-shout this *a lot* between now and the end of the series! :) I love MARY!!!!!! the way you love River Song :) )

It's good that you noticed Sherlock will be coming off Prime. Can you imagine getting to 3X3 and then suddenly not able to watch any more. I'm not sure which episodes you'll be watching when so just a reminder that there is a fourth episode in this season. You wouldn't be lost if you skipped it (some people do skip) but there are small bits of information that loosely lead into the fourth season.

You picked up on the Holmes' parents taking Mycroft to see Les Mis at the theatre. Also, when Sherlock is on the phone to Mycroft in one of the final scenes you can hear Les Mis playing in the background. What perfect timing with those two reactions in the same week. Another connection I noticed was right at the start of the Doctor Who anniversary episode Kate asks Osgood what they are going tell the public after grabbing the TARDIS and flying it halfway across London, in plain sight of people. Osgood replies 'Derren Brown'! Darren Brown is an English 'psychological illusionist' or 'mentalist' who performs various elaborate illusions and demonstrates the power of mind suggestion etc. In the very first scene of this Sherlock episode, when Anderson is talking through his theory with Lestrade it shows the actual Derren Brown putting John Watson to "sleep" or some form of hypnosis. Lestrade even questions it afterwards saying "Derren Brown?" Just thought that was another fun connection this week.

Totally on yours (and Johns) side. If I watched my best mate jump off a roof and die, I would probably need therapy for the rest of my life and 2 years would be nothing in terms of grieving. If they then just rocked up to say "Oh, hi. By the way, I'm not dead" I'd first question my own sanity - and then I'd be livid!!! It does make me laugh that every time John lunges at Sherlock (when they are first fighting after the reveal), each time the place where they end up is less and less 'posh'. First a high-end restaurant, then a more every-day restaurant, a plain but nice cafe and finally a slightly grubby chippy. 🤣

This is a good way to look at it. I definitely know the first "half" (if you can call it that) better than the second and I prefer the first two seasons. However, still some fantastic moments to come and this particular episode really does a good job. I particularly love the scenes where they are fighting in the various food establishments.

Todd Burroughs

WOW! Didn't know that at all! THANKS!

Todd Burroughs

Oh, but she's *gotta* see the Special! Remember waiting a *whole year* for that New Year's Day treat? :)

Todd Burroughs

I'm in the minority because my top two are "Scandal" (2x1) and that New Year's Special (4x0? No, you're right, Max Packer; it's listed as 3x4 on Prime)! But my favorite Sherlock character is MARY!!!!!!! :)

Max Packer

Oh, I absolutely agree that she MUST watch it. I was trying to play it cool (or perhaps 'play it down') in case she watches it and doesn't enjoy it as much. I was being a coward and not wanting to get any hopes up 🤣

Todd Burroughs

I'm not sure, but it looks like it's coming off Prime main but if you subscribe to AMC+ or BritBox through Prime you still have it! I guess I'll know in three weeks!

Reel Reaction

Hahahaha yes!! I would absolutely check my sanity and then we fight! 🤣🤣🤣

Reel Reaction

Yes 3x1, how did i not see that!!! 😅 thank you
