I just discovered that the oldest castle-like brick structure in the US is Bacon's Castle 🏰 built in Surry County, Virginia way back in 1665. It is a rare example of Jacobean architecture in The New World. Despite its name, it was never used as a true castle in the medieval sense. I'll have to look up more about its history as it seems interesting!
