From script to page: Comic #446 (Patreon)
Content
Over the past six years I’ve been fortunate to develop an almost telepathic scripting relationship with Kelci. What I write, and then what you see in the comic, well, it is pretty much exactly what I had in mind during my brainstorming sessions. That kind of creative connection is rare and I never take it for granted.
For example, I just love how Kelci drew #446 from very bare bones descriptions. How she makes a panel in which Fakir is basically dishing food out onto a plate into something with layers, that takes innate talent.
And Kelci always makes each character shine in their own way. i.e. Kyle’s curiousity and anxious excitement have been evident since day one. And when he jumps in and takes a chance, such as eating Middle Eastern food, he is rewarded with an enriching experience. He was the first one to play Tiny Unicorn, after all!
Plus c’mon, she does the best sound effects. “Sloop” might be a nautical term, but here it means “Hop on over to my plate!”
But you already know how awesome she is. I just wanted to let you know that I know too. So check out the script below and see how telepathy is really how comics are made.
Panel 1
Fakir dishes out some food onto Kyle’s plate.
KYLE: So you only eat with your right hand?
FAKIR: That is the custom. But things are obviously more westernized over here. You are even allowed to use utensils now.
KYLE: Whoa!
Panel 2
Everyone is enjoying the food.
ALLY: So, Danni and Titus had some good ideas, particularly about panels. They think we should avoid doing a Women in a Comics or Artists of Color panel.
FAKIR: Oh? So what are they suggesting?
ALLY: Just to make sure the discussions showcase creators from different backgrounds and tackle different topics. Not focus so much on their backgrounds, themselves.
Panel 3
Kyle and Fakir exchange ideas. Ally takes a bite of food while listening.
KYLE: Integration! Very cool. We should have Big 2 and indie people together on some panels, too. We gotta get people talking to each other!
FAKIR: I like it. Rather than just having echo chambers. Good strategy.
ALLY (CAPTION): The ideas are flowing and we’re making progress! And pretty soon... BAKLAVA!
