In Scottish lore it is said prosperity follows after the appearance of a black cat on your porch. In England, sailors believed keeping them happy with full bellies led to fair weather at sea. The wives of fishermen thought having one in the house would ensure their husbands would return home safely. The French, well, they have always known they are magical. And the Egyptians, let's just say you wouldn't have wanted to harm one of these creatures, for they were revered as godlike.

The internet has deemed today Black Cat Appreciation Day. For me, it's every day, because the mystical feline named Polly is a member of the family. I am happy to share some photos I took of her. She posed exactly the way she wanted to, for a black cat doesn't have to give a reason for doing so.

"And remember, we do not choose a cat to be our companion, they choose us." That's a line from a book I'm working on. More news on that soon...
