Cosplay did indeed explode in popularity in the 2010s. Back in the 2000s, beyond shows like Dragon Con (which was once called Dragon*Con), there were only a handful of people in costume. Times have changed and conventions have embraced the waves of passionate fans showing their love for their favorite characters.
