We have reach Freeze Your Brain, I'm so excited!! First comment on your Patreon, glad I'm around for this. To quickly gush about this song, I kinda relate to this song. I am very fortunate to not have experienced loss of family or moving like JD, but I have experienced depression AND more relevant to this song, using semi-destructive habits to cope with it. My constant food eating and spendaholic nature are JD's slushies, they give a distraction and break from the constant depressing and dark thoughts. Not a GOOD comping mechanism but something very easy to get lost in.

This song definitely gives dear even Hansen (DEH) vibes. Highly recommend it, make sure if you do deh that you do the theatre version or the original broadway cast recordings. They made a movie version that cut like half the songs and also just wasn’t very good 😓

jayden_arsonew

ryan mccartan is jd he's great, you should check out his youtube channel it's called the stage door lol

Morgan beauchamp

Casper the video cut out in the middle of it

Sahmosamson

Yeah it's hard not to feel bad for JD at this point, and if things went he could have turned out different...(and with a lot of theropy)

Murder? In a high school musical? Sounds a bit dark, doesn't it?

Amber Branson

I was a depressed seventeen-year-old once, too. My sad inner child vibes with this song, with the variety of ways I caused myself physical pain to distract from the mental pain, with my desperate escapism... This is around the middle of the list if I were to rank the songs from the show. The relatability keeps it from either dropping or rising too far.

I'm so used to listening to the West End version that his voice threw me! I love Jamie Muscato's version of this and the weird accent he does to represent that he's moved a lot

Liz Lilliman

It's very easy when you move around a lot that you become quite an introvert. I never had any best friends as most of my childhood not only did I move a lot , I got teased for my dad's job (he was a vicar). We moved when I was 3 to start his training ,.don't remember much of this, then 3 to 6 in one place. Moved 6 to 9 had a couple of friends but the teasing started here. Moved to a school in a very rough council estate, bad teasing here so bad that when I moved to secondary school my parents decided that I should go-to private school, very few friends really felt the wealth difference here. Middle gcses moved to a village and state school more teasing. I felt very alone. I don't now really have adult friends just me and husband. As a teenager I got into goth and heavy metal which again makes you an outsider. So I can understand this song. Jd is very misunderstood and probably an introvert. He may dream of murder but I think if you've been bullied you do, I wrote murder stories.

After a long battle with cancer, my Mom died when I was 13. Depression has always been part of my life - but harming others has never crossed my mind. Perhaps that’s a male thing to direct self loathing outwards? JD seems to be saying that there’s no point in forming attachments to humans when the only permanent structure is a convenience store.

DragonTamer200

I don’t have much to say here as I yapped about my thoughts in discord, but FYI the video cut out in the middle, just to make sure you’re able to get that fixed for YouTube :catlurk: 💜

Felix (Volran)

Dude why did the video cut out in the middle :(

William Watson

Video keeps cutting out in the middle, anyone else having this problem?

PugglePug735

Probably won’t be super noticeable, but JD and H Chandler are played by different people in the bootlegged dialogue vs the songs (just in case you notice any obvious vocal differences between the two down the line). Volran’s probably already mentioned it lol

playing-the-Lady-Rebel

You mentioned the visuals at the point where he talks about his mother dying— I can’t speak for any other casts, but when I saw the London version Veronica turned her head away from him and mouthed “Oh shit” when he sang the “When mom was alive” line

AstralAegis

Dang it, the video cut out just as I was getting Casper lore. I wanted to know where you grew up

Toga_UwU

Yes! Jamie is my favorite JD for sure! Hearing the broadway version is a little jarring lol

Toga_UwU

Casper! The video cut out right in the middle 🥲 I was hoping it it was just me but I checked the comments and it seems to be for everyone else too

Midnight Daybreak

Noooooo, not Dear Evan Hanson! I can't got through that again 😢

This song reminds me of how often me and my family moved and the feeling of never getting the chance to get attached to the house. luckily never moved out of the small town area but houses were just a blink and it’s a new place, new spot.

Each of us has a unique life experience. As children in a dysfunctional situations, we accept it as normal and find our coping mechanisms. My mother’s illness resulted with both my parents as alcoholics. Luckily my elder sister took charge of me and my 2 younger siblings. It was unfair to all. I’m also an introvert. I have a few, very close friends. I’m extremely sensitive to violence due to being the first on scene at a friend’s suicide (she ate a 45 bullet). I grew up during the times that unarmed protesters were shot with impunity. Hearing rounds being chambered behind my back wasn’t an uncommon occurrence. As adults, we can recognize these things as being painful formative experiences. Hopefully we work through them. We cannot change our past, but we can determine how we face our present and address our future - as people made stronger by surviving adversity. I also coped through creativity. I wonder how much of human artistic expression is an outlet for pain?

Marguerite McBee

Aww, I like Dear Evan Hansen. It expresses my big emotions really well, and I'd like to see your reaction to it.
