Pretty much you have 3 cones in your eyes: blue, black and red. Most people are born with all 3, but people with colour blindness, also known as dichromats, are missing one of the 3 cones (usually red as red/green colour blindness is the most common). It doesn’t mean you see greyscale when those colours present, but it makes it harder for your eyes to differentiate colours on that spectrum
